WWE Trademarks Kayfabe, Smackdown Roster Additions, New FCW Talent

- WWE has filed for the trademark of the word "kayfabe." This is part of a new merchandise line they have launched with insider terms.

- Darren Young, Derrick Bateman and Percy Watson are all three now listed on the Smackdown roster on the official WWE website.

- Wrestling News World reader Fernando sent this in… FCW features a new talent named Benicio Salazar from Mexico City. He was formerly known as El Hijo del Médico Asesino (Killer Doctor's Son) in his homeland.

Seriously? "Kayfabe" is a term that's been around for years and WWE wants it all for themselves. Not cool.

      My thoughts exactly…

That’s what I was thinking. Kayfabe is an industry term. WWE didn’t make it up and didn’t make it a popular term therefor shouldn’t get to trademark it to use on some cruddy t-shirt line.

Kayfabe Commentarys might be able to stop that from happening..

When a word is copywrited like this, it does not mean anyone else can not say the word. Just no one else can make money off it. It’s like a brand or slogan. It does not mean everyone has to stop using the term for what it is supposed to mean.

AWESOME!!Percy Watson,Derrick Bateman, and Darrin Young are now part of WWE SmackDown, can't wait until they come on tv for the SmackDown brand,it should be awesome.

The word Darren is spelled above… Yet you still spell it wrong… How is that even possible?

It depends on the scope of the trademark and what it’s used for. Just shirts shouldn’t be too bad, but if they went after other sectors this trademark would lose quick in a lawsuit, due to the fact that this is based off of previous work. Interested to see how this works out.

Can WWE even do that? This reminds me of when Donald Trump brought the copyrights to the term "You're fired".

I hope that this means they'll be working the SmackDown live events. Recently bought my ticket for the Dublin show in a month and a half, I'd love to see Bateman at it!
