What do you hope to see happen in WWE during 2016?
I have a couple of things I'd like to see go down in WWE during 2016. The first of those is I want to see Daniel Bryan return to action in the first quarter of the year. It's about time WWE swallowed their pride and brought him back into the fold. If they don't then I think we'll soon be writing about WWE losing Bryan and calling it one of the biggest mistakes the company has ever made. It's clear he wants to be back and feels ready to come back, and with the Royal Rumble coming up I see no better time than the present to bring him back to action.
I'd also like to see Finn Balor called up to the main roster in the second quarter of the year, potentially the night after Wrestlemania 32. I say after Wrestlemania because from January onward all the concentration on booking tends to be geared toward the biggest show of the year, and quite rightly so. But Balor would immediately be lost in this situation and I don't feel his debut would have the same impact as it should. We all know the night after Wrestlemania tends to be something special and the pop Balor could receive from the crowd making his debut on the roster that night would be unlike anything we have ever seen before.
And finally I would really like to see some new talent being given the spotlight and a push toward the main event scene. When I say new talent I mean names like Kevin Owens or Dean Ambrose, who are already on the main roster and have been working incredibly hard during 2015 and are now clambering on to that brass ring of Vince McMahon's, where they are now so close to going to that next level. Equally I think names like Tyler Breeze, Neville, Samoa Joe, James Storm, Bayley, Finn Balor, Sami Zayn, Hideo Itami, Jason Jordan & Chad Gable and Enzo & Big Cass all deserve a shot at going up another level, some of them onto the main roster to show us what they are capable of bringing to the table. WWE is in a great position right now where they have some great talent and are spoilt for choice. It's now up to the company to bring those talents through and nurture them in the way they need to be to take them all to the next level. 2016 promises to be an exciting year in WWE and I hope everyone can see how bright the future looks for the company and the industry as a whole.
Who do you see winning the Royal Rumble?
At this point it's hard to see who could be a legitimate winner of the Royal Rumble given it's not easy to see what creative direction the company is going in around the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. I think if I'm pushed for an answer then I can see either Brock Lesnar or John Cena winning the match, which I know a lot of fans will probably say is boring and predictable but I can't see anyone else right now in the position to show they could win it. With Lesnar or Cena you have an incredibly viable opponent for Roman Reigns if they decide to keep the title on him. Of the two I think I'd prefer to see Brock win the match just because he is still a huge draw and fans are more likely to get behind him in the main event than Cena. I'd say the outside bets for winning include Dean Ambrose, Kevin Owens, Daniel Bryan (If he returns), Sheamus or Randy Orton. I would like to see someone win the Rumble match that we aren't expecting to win it, to use the moment to elevate them but I think given WWE wants to build a huge show at the AT&T Stadium they will pull out one of the big guns to main event the show.
What were some of your highlights of 2015?
One of the top highlights for me this year has to be Roman Reigns winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in front of the same crowd that booed him after winning Royal Rumble earlier this year. I think Roman did a great job throughout this year of sticking it out through the hard times and he recently got his reward for it. Bu I think my number one moment this year was Seth Rollins cashing in the Money in the Bank at Wrestlemania 31 and his whole title run following on from that. Rollins had a breakout year in 2015 and if there's one thing I can believe, it's that Seth will be back better than ever in 2016.
Other highlights include John Cena’s US Title Open Challenge each week as it was something fresh, something different, and it helped the fans see Cena in a different light. We also saw the great debuts of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn on the main roster. Owens had one heck of a start, defeating John Cena in his first big match on the roster. Things went down hill for a while following that but it appears toward the end of 2015 Owens is back on track. Sami Zayn sadly only had that one match with John Cena before being injured but it was awesome to see him get his shot on the main roster, where I hope we will see him again in 2016. And my other moment personally was seeing the recent match at Raw in Manchester between Sheamus and Cesaro. Those two gave it everything in that match and they proved why they are two great talents.
What names from the pro wrestling world do you think WWE should sign?
I’m just gonna throw a couple of names out there from the American scene which I feel should be given a shot by WWE. You’ve got great names on the West Coast of the States like Jeff Cobb, who is a great athlete and is making waves in Lucha Underground right now. You’ve also got JR Kratos who is making huge waves across the whole of the country right now, and is a huge part of the Global Force Wrestling roster. Timothy Thatcher is a great wrestler who deserves a shot at the big time and has a tremendous in ring style and great wrestling background. And finally I think The Reno Scum as a Tag Team would be a great addition to the roster as they are probably having some of the best matches across the USA on a regular basis.
From a purely British standpoint I believe that New Generation Wrestling Champion Nathan Cruz is a man to keep an eye on as he has the look and in ring skill to become a worldwide star. Zack Gibson is another name I think should be on the companies’ radar in 2016 as he is one of the best wrestlers in the UK at this time. I’d be crazy not to mention Insane Championship Wrestling Champion Grado at this point as the man is probably the most over talent in British wrestling today, and despite his comedy gimmick he knows how to tell a story in the ring. And I believe 2016 could finally be the year Drew Galloway returns to WWE. Since leaving the company Galloway has not only reinvented himself but I feel he has gotten better and better in the ring, and in my opinion is probably the best wrestler in the world outside of WWE right now.
I’m probably leaving out so many great talents including the likes of Noam Dar, Rampage Brown, Mark Haskins, Justin Sysum, Joe Coffey and many more but not everyone can make it to WWE at the same time and in time I’m sure all these guys will make it.
