What’s the update on Brock Lesnar? Is there any chance John Cena will lose at WWE TLC on Sunday, thus giving Lesnar a new challenger?
I do not see John Cena losing his No. 1 contendership to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at TLC on Sunday but obviously due to the stipulation, it’s a possibility. Brock Lesnar is scheduled for Raw next week in Detroit, so hopefully by this time next week we’ll have a clearer picture of where the company is going with their world title.
From what I’ve been told, Vince McMahon has gone back and forth about when to do Cena vs. Lesnar again as a blowoff and I would be surprised if he didn’t do one at all. It’s also a possibility that Brock makes a surprise appearance at TLC on Sunday (showing WWE Network subscribers anything can happen on pay-per-view) and sets up a triple threat with Cena and Rollins for the title at Royal Rumble but that opens up a whole other set of issues.
Complicating matters is that Rollins is already penciled in for feuds with a returning Randy Orton and Roman Reigns, so does WWE push both of those aside and put Rollins in the title picture? What about the Money in the Bank briefcase?
While many questions remain, here’s what we know. TLC is the final pay-per-view before the Road to Wrestlemania and already in the plans for main event level matches at the show next March is Brock Lesnar and Sting. Who they face and who will join them remains to be seen.
Do you see WWE breaking Damien Mizdow and The Miz up and pushing Sandow on his own?
A breakup between The Miz and Damien Mizdow seems to be an inevitability and has been teased since the moment they won the WWE Tag Team Championship at Survivor Series. The Mizdow gimmick has gotten over in a big way, with fans eating it up at live events and on TV. More than a few backstage also think it’s funny. But should we praise WWE for the Mizdow gimmick>?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a sourpuss. I think Damien Mizdow is hilarious, however, I also believe it’s gimmicks like this that fuel a lot of the ridiculously silly gimmicks that we dread. I personally believe Mizdow got over because of Damien Sandow, not because WWE came up with a genius idea to book him as Miz’s stunt double.
A point that I’ve stressed lately is that if Sandow can get over with little to no help of the writers, imagine what he could do with some protection. WWE has started on him before — such as putting him over the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2013 — but have cooled every time.
What was the purpose of WWE breaking up Erick Rowan from the Wyatt Family, and all of a sudden turning him babyface?
WWE felt The Wyatt Family trio had run its course and planned to push Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper as singles superstars. Triple H views Bray as a top talent and feels he is proof the company’s developmental system works very well. I’m told Vince sees Luke Harper as the bigger star due to his size. Erick Rowan was the odd man out and while WWE also aired “set free” vignettes for him, there wasn’t a clear creative plan.
When Sheamus went down WWE needed a babyface to fill the role so they turned Rowan with no story and gave him this program with Big Show. I don’t know where it will go but that’s the story behind the turn.
It is 2014; Why is Jerry Lawler still being allowed to leer over women a third of his age on national TV?
I will admit that I laughed out loud when I read this question. I agree the element of Jerry Lawler’s character where he is “obsessed with the Divas” has gotten juvenile and even creepy due to the widening gap in age. Lawler once said that he felt his character was the furthest thing from who is he in real life because he’s not really like this. I don’t know the reasoning behind making Lawler obsessed with the Divas in 2014 but Vince McMahon has a strange sense of humor.
From the Ask WNW vault…
March 2013: Will Brock Lesnar ever be WWE Champion again or is it in his new contract? - We heard one of the perks of Brock Lesnar’s new two-year agreement following Wrestlemania 29 that a title reign was in there. I don’t know how flexible this is and will caution plans are always subject to change. However, this is what we heard when Brock signed a contract extension.
The next installment of Ask WNW is scheduled to run on Wednesday, December 10, 2014.
