Ronda Rousey vs. Amanda Nunes At UFC 207?, Goldberg Returning To WWE, When Hardys Are Free Agents

Ronda Rousey

Will Ronda Rousey face Cyborg in UFC next year?

Cyborg called out Ronda Rousey again today on Instagram, noting that she’ll come down to 140 pounds for a catchweight fight. Here’s what she wrote to Rousey on Instagram:

No reason to comeback New Years if you aren't even going to fight the girl who "took your" belt. People will respect you more if you finally let us settle this novela inside the cage. I can make 140, you don't have to come to the champ.

Dana White wants Rousey to fight for the UFC women’s bantamweight championship immediately upon her return, which is looking like a fight against Amanda Nunes. The rumor is that fight is currently in discussions to take place at UFC 207 in December. Cyborg and MMA fans have pleaded for a catchweight fight between her and Rousey but White has continually put up roadblocks that have stopped it from happening. At this point, I can only comment on what we know and based on what we know, it seems the next UFC fight involving Rousey will be against Nunes for the title. She will clearly be looking for redemption after her shocking loss to Holly Holm last November. Rousey must win to make Holm’s win look like a fluke because Holm’s last two fights have indicated just that.

Do you believe Bill Goldberg is going to announce a deal to return to WWE Wednesday night on SportsCenter?

We provided a complete update on Bill Goldberg’s WWE status here in our Members content. I can tell you the word out of Raw last night was that people were expecting Goldberg to announce a deal with WWE but I can also confirm there was no deal as of early Tuesday morning. We’ve been tracking Goldberg possibly returning to WWE for a main event match at Wrestlemania 33 since June and I’ve repeatedly said that WWE needs to move on from Goldberg. However, I am beginning to change my tune. WWE badly needs some buzz. Things peaked in July with the Draft and Brock Lesnar’s cross-over appearance at UFC 200. Since then, things have been stagnant and viewership has been in the hole. Yes, Goldberg will be 50 years old in December and yes, he’ll be impossible to book but him announcing a return on SportsCenter this week could re-light the fire. WWE needs anything right now to get things going and if this is what it takes, I’m for it. Things have gotten to that point and I’m not afraid to admit that I feel that way. Also, just look at Dan Henderson, who will headline Saturday’s UFC 204 at 46 years old. He can still fight and wants to try to knock out Michael Bisping one more time before he calls it a career. His last fight was impressive, so why not?

Raw’s main event between Charlotte and Sasha Banks was awesome. Do you think it might encourage them to have more women main events?

I hope so and as I noted earlier, the talk coming out of Raw was that Charlotte would rematch Sasha Banks for the WWE Raw Women’s Championship in a Hell in a Cell match at the pay-per-view later this month. It’s time that WWE goes “all-in” with their female talent. They’ve come close a couple of times but the complete evolution still hasn’t happened. I agree it was a strong Raw main event and it will be the first women’s Hell in a Cell match in WWE history if they go ahead with that rumored plan.

Do you see The Hardys returning to WWE for one more run?

I can confirm that WWE is interested in both Matt and Jeff Hardy and that Jeff is on record as to saying he wants to finish his career in WWE. However, they are still both under contract with TNA Wrestling and will be until February 2017. I also believe both enjoy the more relaxed schedule of TNA and Jeff said recently that he was worried if he returned to WWE he would burn out in four or five months. It could come down to how much TNA is willing to pay to retain them as opposed to what WWE would offer them.
