Welcome once again ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls to another edition of the Smackdown Breakdown here on WNW. With Survivor Series taking place this Sunday I was hoping WWE would give us another strong show similar to the quality of last weeks show and I feel they delivered a decent show this week. There are not many big matches on the card but I like the main event and like the idea of Dean Ambrose versus Bray Wyatt. I think other than focusing on those two matches though the build up to the other matches has not been as consistent or of a focus. I'm not sure what's going to happen going into Sunday's show but I really hope we get a quality show with shocks and surprises.
With that being said lets head on straight into this weeks edition of the Smackdown Breakdown and discuss the points of this weeks show.
Triple H Opening Segment - 4.5 Stars
Could this Sunday prove to be the beginning of the end of the Authority in WWE? While even if they lose you can see there will remain some sort of power struggle between Vince and Triple H, both on and off screen seemingly, I think this match has two very interesting outcome possibilities. I liked how Hunter was short in his temper toward Cole throughout this promo and he dealt with some hard hitting questions. Cole at one point was almost trying to rile Triple H with some of his comments and that led to quite a key comment from Hunter about how the opinion of the WWE Universe at times is irrelevant as this pretty much feels like that can be the motto of the company at times. I thought Hunter was solid throughout his promo and if anything you almost believe that WWE will struggle to survive without him at the helm on screen. I felt throughout the segment he showed he was desperate to win and he added a stipulation that the members of Team Cena would be fired if they lose on Sunday in an attempt to put some doubt in their minds. This was a great way to kick off the show and kind of took away from what would have looked like an obvious finish going into Survivor Series.
Rusev vs. Dolph Ziggler - 3.5 Stars
Dolph looked hugely fired up for this one following the stipulation announcement and this one went back and forth early between the two men. I thought it was interesting to note how on a few occasions it was mentioned that Rusev has yet to be pinned or forced to submit and it got me thinking how WWE will handle his potential elimination into Sunday's match? I'm expecting it could be a disqualification or count out elimination if Rusev is eliminated at all as this won't be surely the time WWE chooses to end the big Bulgarian's dominance. While Rusev controlled the majority of the middle of the match I thought Dolph showed that with speed he looked like he could defeat Rusev. I enjoyed the finish of the match and Rusev attacking Dolph after the match was a nice additional touch.
The Miz and Damien Mizdow vs. Los Matadores - 3 Stars
I was thining before this match about how cool it would be for Miz and Mizdow to hold the tag titles because the popularity of the team right now is at a high, but that's mostly down to Mizdow only for me right now. We saw The Usos and Goldust and Stardust on commentary and I have to be honest I found that more entertaining than the match itself. I loved the spot where Mizdow hurled himself into Gold and Stardust after Miz had been thrown into The Usos. I'm seeing more and more the brewing of Miz turning on Mizdow and I expect that could be quite a fun feud to watch. Los Matadores picked up a win in this match but I am not any more excited ahead of the fatal four way tag team match headed into Sunday than I was before this.
Ambrose Survival Kit Segment - 4 Stars
When I saw the title for this segment it did have me wondering what on earth we were going to see. I wasn't expecting the survival kit to actually end up with Ambrose revealing the kit is his body and he will use any part of it to defeat Bray. Bray might well be one of the best promo guys in the business who can play mind games with his opponents but Ambrose is just seemingly that crazy I don't think he is in the least bit concerned about his opponent. I thought Bray cut a great promo response using a cell to hit home his message of trapping Ambrose. I really cannot wait to see these two go at it on Sunday. The only criticism I have about this segment is I would have liked to see Ambrose respond to Bray or for them to have some sort of confrontation but I guess it just makes the anticipation into Sunday that bit better.
Brie Bella vs. AJ Bella - 3.5 Stars
Yes that is right, I said AJ Bella in the title of this match. When Nikki came out dressed as AJ on Raw I was expecting some kind of response but this was priceless for me. I thought this was actually a good Divas match that even saw some technical wrestling involved. We also got to see a first in this match when what looked like an implant was used by AJ as a weapon. AJ picked up a win following a distraction from Nikki and took momentum going into her defence on Sunday. Will AJ and Nikki put on a good match Sunday? I hope so as Nikki has improved in the ring but in all honesty I prefer Brie's work of the two sisters. It's a shame Paige isn't involved in this one but on the upside at least she got on the card somehow.
Erick Rowan vs. Cesaro - 4 Stars
I love how Cesaro showed absolutely no fear heading into this one and it was great watching him slap the mask off Rowan, although this just seemed to fire up the big man who came across really aggressive in this one. This is going to be Rowan's chance now to prove himself after being part of the successful Wyatt Family, and if he can perform like this regularly then he is going to be just fine. There's something about him I don't trust headed into the match Sunday but I'm not sure if I should just be meant to feel that way or not. Rowan made easy work of Cesaro in this one and it was without doubt Rowan's most impressive outing to date. I like the tease of a confrontation between Harper and Rowan, but I really want anything physical to be saved for Sunday.
Ryback and Big Show vs. Kane and Seth Rollins - 4 Stars
I thought the pre-match promo from Team Cena following the stipulation made earlier in the night that their jobs were on the line was a great way to show they are solidly behind Cena and they are committed to the cause of ending the Authority. I wasn't surprised to hear Ziggler and Rowan were banned from ringside during the match, and nor was I surprised when Team Authority came to ringside just before the break. I thought as a team Big Show and Ryback looked pretty good and it's a team I would not be against seeing more of in the future. I was impressed during this one by the work of both Seth and Ryback, as well as the veteran performances from Kane and Big Show.
I'm still undecided about the outcome of Sunday's match between these two teams but right now I am starting to lean toward an Authority victory somehow. I wasn't surprised this match ended in a disqualification and if I can pick fault with something about the end of this one it's that Cena did not even appear to back up his team. Team Authority just destroyed the members of Team Cena and were left standing tall at the end which gives them a huge advantage headed into Sunday's match. Whatever the outcome I have every hope this match will be a great way to close the show with a truly unique ending that we will all remember for years to come.
Overall Show Rating - 4 Stars
I was hoping for another strong showing from WWE headed into Survivor Series and I feel for the second week running they delivered with a solid opening and ending segment. While some of the show felt a little flat and not quite up to expectation there were parts of the show that really wet my appetite going into Sunday. My favourite part of this weeks show was probably the opening segment as you could really feel the desperation coming from Triple H to win at any cost and even though he didn't show it you can tell he is worried about the outcome of the match headed into Sunday.
