Hello everyone and welcome once again to another edition of the WWE Smackdown Breakdown on WNW. This week has seen WWE take their second half tour live here in the UK and bring their flag ship shows Raw and Smackdown to our shores. It's great WWE rewards it's UK fans for their loyalty by bringing over these shows twice a year but one question really does need to be asked now; when is the UK going to stage another Pay Per View? If the NFL can do it with their regular season games and not suffer majorly from the time difference then surely a franchise like WWE can take the time delay especially considering the show can now be watched on demand on the Network (except here in the UK at the minute) and WWE doesn't seem to have the same concern about the quality of it's shows since the move from the traditional Pay Per View method. It's probably just a pipe dream and we won't get to see a Pay Per View over here for some time if ever but the market and fan base is there to do it and the UK fans certainly have wanted it for years.
I also loved how WWE further teased a match pitting Sting versus Undertaker when the company showed the preview of WWE 2K15 and made fans aware they could play this dream match up on their console. I hope this was some sort of subtle hint that WWE will put this one on at Wrestlemania 31 but I'm not going to start totally speculating that this is going to happen. It's interesting WWE have teased this on several occasions over the last year though and I believe it's much nearer to becoming a reality than it previously was.
With that being said lets head on into this weeks Smackdown Breakdown and see what I made of the show which I hope you all will agree was a quality effort all round.
Chris Jericho's Highlight Reel - 4 Stars
I must admit I was a little surprised when I heard Jericho had appeared on the tour but equally it's great to see him back in the WWE. Funaki finally got his first ever chant thanks to Jericho claiming he could be the Bunny, you have to love it. The Authority knows how to draw heat without even trying and that's what makes them so great. Despite the fact the whole power tripping boss thing is becoming a cliché in WWE Hunter and Steph make it work well. The "where's our Network" chants were fully in force but were quickly gone when Jericho quickly changed the subject. Jericho knows how to play up to a crowd and had the UK fans eating out of his hands. A good mix of humour and seriousness made this a good way to kick off this weeks show. Part of me would love to see the Authority next Sunday night but I'm not confident that's what is going to happen.
Bray Wyatt vs. Sin Cara - 4 Stars
I'm looking forward to seeing Ambrose and Wyatt face off next Sunday as I think this could be a real show stealing match given the natural quality and talent of both men. This match was designed to build up Wyatt as the unstoppable monster that he was once before and it pretty much made him look like a threat to Ambrose going into their match, although Sin Cara and Ambrose are on opposite ends of the quality scale. Bray did what he needed to and made himself look powerful headed into Next weekend. He then spoke after the match and cut another powerful promo, which if anything helped pull up from the quality of his fairly brief match. Ambrose coming out to confront him was a nice touch as it showed he isn't afraid of Wyatt, and boy did Ambrose and Wyatt make some magic in their brief interaction. I cannot wait for this match next Sunday.
Goldust and Stardust vs. Adam Rose and The Bunny - 3.5 Stars
What a reception for Adam Rose, although some of it was probably just as much for the Bunny. It's been a while since we last saw an animal in a wrestling match that wasn't a bull like Mantaur or El Torito (please correct me if I'm wrong) and this is weirdly a moment fans have been looking forward to. This further teased the tension between Rose and the Bunny well as it was the Bunny who lost the match for the team. I just want to know who is under the Bunny head more than anything. I like the evil side to Adam Rose, I preferred him as the Leo Krueger character if I'm honest but he is making this character work. This match was ok and served it's purpose for the night.
Tyson Kidd vs. Cesaro vs. Dolph Ziggler - 5 Stars
This match has quality not only written all over it but in it. You have three fantastic stars who have proved countless times over the years just how great they are and are more deserving of a better spot on the WWE card. This was simply a WRESTLING match through and through and was one of the most enjoyable matches I have seen this year. We saw fast paced action mixed with power and technical skill at times. I very rarely grade a segment as a 5 star but this was certainly worthy of the rating. I beg and plead with anyone reading this from WWE; Please give these guys a more prolific spot on the card and give them a chance in a bigger situation. There were so many different spots in this match that were top quality that you would have a difficult time picking just one as being the stand out moment but for me it was the power bomb and super plex combo that stood out. Not only did a match of the year candidate take place but so did a crime as these three men just stole the show.
Layla vs. Natalya - 4 Stars
Two of WWE's top Divas get to face off and show what they can do. They did not disappoint either by demonstrating just what true quality they still have. It's a shame the crowd didn't seem more into this one as I thought these two put on an entertaining display and proved that the Divas division doe shave more talent than just AJ Lee and the UK's very own Paige. Natalya picked up a win in this one and finally made the crowd come alive at the end. A good effort from both Divas and a shame this one couldn't have gone longer.
Ryback vs. Kane - 4 Stars
If you'd asked me if I thought Ryback and Kane would be a main event match this year on Smackdown I'd have said you were crazy. I'm seriously eating my words about Ryback as his attitude since his return has been so much better and he seems to be a different person. I still maintain he needs some work in the ring before WWE decide to strap the push rocket to him again but I believe if he is built and handled right that Ryback can be a top star one day. This was a good power match between the two men and helped build more questions around where Ryback's allegiance lays going into Sunday. While he claims to be on Team Ryback, don't be surprised to see some kind of involvement from the big guy in next Sundays main event match. Kane continued to show why he is a dependable veteran who can still work a good match. It's a shame this ended as a disqualification but I think it was the only way they could have booked the ending considering the questions around Ryback's allegiance. The stare down between Hunter and Ryback at the end was intense but you can't help but feel there is something more brewing and building from this.
Overall Show Rating - 4 Stars
This has to be the best and most memorable episodes of Smackdown in some time. I don't know what it was but there was something about the matches and the quality of the segments that made this weeks show click and seem so much better than it has in the past few months. No prizes for guessing which of the matches was my favourite this week as I'm sure the majority of fans loved seeing the match between Tyson Kidd, Cesaro, and Dolph Ziggler. If you watch Smackdown for just one thing this week, and there are so many good points to chose from, it has to be this match for me. From start to finish it was a great effort from all involved and further proof of the quality these three men bring to the WWE table.
That wraps up another instalment of the Smackdown Breakdown from me for another week. I hope you enjoyed my thoughts and I encourage you all to continue the conversation and leave your thoughts in the comments section below. I will be back again next week with another instalment and I will be joining the rest of the WNW crew next Sunday night in the live blog during Survivor Series to give my thoughts and reaction to the show so please feel free to join us for that. I'm now off to get ready to take my son out to a birthday party and then go play bingo with some ghosts tonight (Yes you read that last bit right, I'm going on a paranormal investigation of a bingo hall and hopefully there will be no ECW type spirits there looking to take out some aggression) and hope both occasions can live up to the quality show I just watched back.
Until next week thanks for reading the Smackdown Breakdown and I will catch you next week.
