The Road to WrestleMania is finally underway! I’m actually pretty confident that this year’s “Granddaddy of Them All” will be a hellacious one. After all, we have “The Phenomenal One” AJ Styles defending his title against “The Rockstar” Shinsuke Nakamura. Both of these men are two of the most popular WWE Superstars today. I highly guarantee that they will put on an awesome main event.
So, since Shinsuke ended up declaring his spot in the main event at WrestleMania to face AJ for his WWE Championship, who will Brock Lesnar be defending his title against? I mean, as much as I’d love to see “The Monster Among Men” Braun Strowman finally take the title from Brock, there is still a “Dominator” named Bobby Lashley out there in the world and he just let his GFW Impact contract run out.
As a lot of us may know, Lashley was last seen in the WWE about a decade ago. He displayed so much potential to be pure greatness that I was saying this as a pre-teen. It was actually my dream to see Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley back then because these are two powerhouses who have a pretty big, athletic background on their hands. It kind of sucked that Lesnar left before Lashley was coming in.
Lashley requested his release from the WWE after his first tenure because of his then-girlfriend, Kristal Marshall. She didn’t like the way that the company was booking her. This resulted in her departure from the company. A furious, frustrated and probably confused Bobby Lashley also requested his release. He had a lot going for himself in the company, too. From the point of him leaving WWE to about another year or so, I firmly believe that he would’ve become WWE Champion.
Outside of wrestling, Bobby Lashley is also a mixed martial artist. He is still under contract with Bellator MMA. Lashley has stated that he wants to focus a lot of MMA and then, when the time is right, get into the WWE’s squared circle. His return to the company is highly anticipated. It’s really not a matter of “if” but “when” to be quite honest. It would be pretty interesting to see if Lashley will return before WrestleMania and end up challenging Brock or if the WWE would wait until after WrestleMania to bring him in.
I know, for sure, that it will be pretty cool to see “the Reigning…..! Defending…..! Universal Heavyweight Champion!!!!!!! Brrrrrrrock….! Lesnar!!!!” vs. a returning Bobby Lashley (who’s a former world champion in his own right) for the Universal Championship no matter what the pay-per-view or location. As soon as Lashley shows his face or runs in on Brock Lesnar, I just know that the roof will blow off the place. I can really see it now! At the end of their bout, I’m sure that not only Vincent Kennedy McMahon would be a happy camper, but we, as fans, will be pretty happy as well.
