Welcome to WNW’s Roadblock: End of the Line 2016 Predictions! Roadblock will be emanating from the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This time around, we have myself, Zack Krasney, The Retro Goat, Joshua Tucker, and Jesse-Elizabeth Sherwood providing predictions. Let’s get to it!
Big Cass vs. Rusev
At a time when WWE has to come up with something for certain workers to do, I guess I can appreciate this filler. I'm not at all entertained by the storyline, but it seems better than nothing considering WrestleMania season is right around the corner. I'd be all for Cass scoring the win here, however, what purpose would that serve? It's probably best Rusev goes over to keep him relevant.
CJ's Predicted Winner: Rusev
It's funny I can already see the Big Cass heel turn coming in the future. Cass turns on Enzo because he's tired of cleaning up after Enzo when he runs his mouth too much. However, that won't be for a while. For now, I think Cass needs to hold his own in this match. I'm not sure if I'd have Cass go over here, but honestly, both men need a win. Rusev has been picking up wins on Enzo, but it wasn't long ago that Roman was beating the piss out of Rusev several PPVs in a row. Rusev is supposed to be the dominant singles wrestler. Cass goes in and out the singles scene and does a great job while he's there, but he is still considered a tag team wrestler for now. I say Cass goes over, but only because of a distraction at ringside. Possibly Lana and Enzo get into a verbal fight?
Zack's Predicted Winner: Big Cass
The Retro Goat:
That dastardly Rusev, fighting Enzo for flailing his junk and making jokes about trying to sleep with Rusev's wife. Rusev really is a babyface in most of his feuds, we're just supposed to boo him for not being from America. So now Big Cass is fighting for the honor of his friend...who was openly trying to sleep with a married woman. This whole feud is just weird, but it's looking like Big Cass will win and defend Enzo's (lack of) honor. Hooray?
The Retro Goat's Predicted Winner: Big Cass
Here are two people going in opposite directions meeting in this match. Big Cass is part of the most over act in WWE right now with Enzo and Rusev just lost his US title to Roman is on his way back down. Rusev could use the win here but being that this is the Pre-show The face losing can be describe in only one word and I’m gonna spell it out for ya! S-W-A-F-T! SAWFT!!! Big Cass scores his biggest win to date and continues on his slow burn push.
Joshua's Predicted Winner: Big Cass
Elizabeth's Predicted Winner: Big Cass
10-Minute Time Limit Singles Match
Sami Zayn vs. Braun Strowman
This is another one of those odd feuds that no one really thought would happen. While I'm interested in seeing what these two can do together, I'm more interested in the feud that's currently going on between Zayn and Mick Foley. Will Sami end up on the blue brand, or is it all a tease for the IWC? One thing is for sure - Zayn should be in a better spot. Something tells me Mania season could be a game-changer for the ultimate underdog, based on the way he's being booked right now. Unfortunately, there's no way Strowman goes under.
CJ's Predicted Winner: Braun Strowman
I think we all know that the 10-minute time limit is going to play into things here in some way. My guess is it will be used to protect both men. It's actually pretty brilliant. Sami gets absolutely wrecked for the first 2-6 minutes of the match but then he shows "heart" and starts fighting back. Braun just can't put Zayn away no matter what he tries. Sami fight back and actually starts gaining some momentum at around 9 minutes. Sami is looking like might have a chance in this match when the 10-minute buzzer goes off. Sami looks good for not only lasting the full 10 minutes but holding his own, while Braun maintains his monster status because he wasn't defeated.
Zack's Predicted Winner: Draw
The Retro Goat:
All Sami Zayn has to do is not die for ten minutes and he'll hand Braun his first one-on-one loss since his repackaging. Such a stipulation gives the popular Sami Zayn the ability to win without actually winning, That sounds like it's meant to protect the both of them, but it really doesn't. Braun couldn't put Sami down in ten minutes, and Sami only won because of a time limit. At least this feud has been reasonably entertaining, and it gave Sami something to do.
The Retro Goat's Predicted Winner: Sami Zayn
This will be by far Braun longest and best match so far. The guy has a ton of untapped potential. There is no way Sami Zayn is winning this match but he will last at least 9 minutes and fall to Braun with about 30 seconds left.
Joshua's Predicted Winner: Braun Strowman
Elizabeth's Predicted Winner: Draw
Cruiserweight Championship Match
Rich Swann (c) vs. Brian Kendrick vs. TJ Perkins
I'm rather pleased this bout is happening, as I called it right after Swann won the title. If I'm being honest, I haven't watched 205 Live since the premiere episode. I just simply don't have time for all of WWE's programming every week. (Hopefully I'll be able to catch up before the pay-per-view.) This match just makes sense, as it's a culmination of the three top cruiserweights since the CWC concluded. I've been thoroughly pleased with the performances of all, so I have high hopes for this bout. Swann's reign is just getting started; it'd be wise to put him over.
CJ's Predicted Winner: Rich Swann
I think it speaks volumes about how much WWE cares about the cruiserweight division that it was only a few weeks ago that Kendrick could only beat Perkins by cheating and then on Raw he beat him clean in a regular match. Either way, I don't think they'll take the title off Swann, especially so soon. I know this doesn't have to do with the match but can we please get Neville in this division, it helps the division and it saves Neville's career which isn't doing great right now. Back to the match, I think Swann is a good face of the division, he's got a ton of personality and in-ring skills to match. Kendrick should have won the title initially but I think they had higher hopes for Perkins and he didn't deliver like they were hoping. I think Rich Swann is getting the position that Perkins was originally set to fill.
Zack's Predicted Winner: Rich Swann
The Retro Goat:
Behold, the entire Cruiserweight Division. Despite winning the tournament, TJP sticks out like a sore thumb here. Rich Swann is an over babyface, and Brian Kendrick is the only developed heel, but Perkins is just...the winner of the tournament. The even weirder thing is that Perkins really shouldn't even be a face. He's brash and cocky, a flashy jackass. Not "I play video games and was homeless once." Hopefully with this match, we can move on from the first feud of the Cruiserweight Division. But tragically, Brian Kendrick is literally the only heel on the Cruiserweight division that's gotten any characterization. I have no clue where they're gonna go from here, and I'm honestly just going with Rich Swann because he just won it and I don't like the idea of hot potato-ing the title.
The Retro Goat's Predicted Winner: Rich Swann
Rich Swann is the most charismatic member of the Cruiserweight Division and as such should remain champion for a little while longer until they can build other characters. Personally I’d like Jack Gallagher to be the next champion but it will probably be somebody like Drew Gulak.
Joshua's Predicted Winner: Rich Swann
Elizabeth's Predicted Winner: Rich Swann
Raw Tag Team Championship Match
The New Day (c) vs. Sheamus & Cesaro
The New Day has finally become the longest reigning WWE Tag Team Champions following two great performances on Raw. Heck, the trio had great performances nearly every time they stepped foot in the ring. So what's next for them? Drop the titles. It's quite simply, really. They broke the record, so let's move on! Cesaro is at the point where he should be in a singles title picture, but WWE doesn't seem to know how to book him properly. If tag gold is the best we can get right now, then so be it. Pull the trigger and strap Sheamus and Cesaro to create new opportunities for the new year!
CJ's Predicted Winner: Sheamus & Cesaro
It's funny, if you asked me this time last week (before the record was broken) I would say that WWE was going to take the titles off New Day immediately after they broke the record, aka Roadblock. However, I'm not so sure. WWE did have New Day beat four incredible tag teams in one night. Sheamus and Cesaro are over right now, but I don't know if WWE thinks they are over enough. Surprisingly, I think WWE is concerned about who New Day passes the torch to. Honestly, I'd say Enzo and Cass should be the next Raw Tag Team Champions. They're the only other tag team that's as over as New Day. I wouldn't be upset at all to see Sheamus and Cesaro get the win, but I think New Day is going to retain. That surprises even me!
Zack's Predicted Winner: New Day
The Retro Goat:
Congrats to New Day for becoming the longest running tag team champions in the history of the WWE. That is legitimately commendable, and it all but guarantees that this trio will be in the Hall of Fame one day. It's always fun watching history being made, even if you aren't a fan of New Day. Personally, I'm hoping they don't immediately drop the titles now just because they beat the previous title streak, especially since Sheamus and Cesaro is still mostly just a thrown together tag team. Though it has admittedly made Sheamus more interesting than he's been in quite awhile.
The Retro Goat's Predicted Winner: New Day
Now that the record has been official broken, The New Day no longer need to hold championships anymore, and Cesaro and Sheamus are the perfect team to take the titles off them. Cesaro and Sheamus have gelled so well as a team it’s shocking. I will be happy to see Cesaro get a moment with winning the titles.
Joshua's Predicted Winner: Sheamus & Cesaro
Elizabeth's Predicted Winner: Sheamus & Cesaro
Seth Rollins vs. Chris Jericho
This feels like another filler match for the main event guys. I'm certainly glad to see both on the card since they've been heavily featured on Raw since the brand split. Jericho has been on a roll for a number of months, but it's time he put someone over. Rollins is clearly building towards a match with Triple H finally, making this bout a stepping stone for The Architect. This will be fun to watch and I look forward to seeing Seth score the win. Perhaps The Game shows his face afterwards?
CJ's Predicted Winner: Seth Rollins
This is another match that I wouldn't want to make the call at who loses here. Both guys are over and both guys could use the win. Seth hasn't really been very successful (in terms of wins and losses) since returning to WWE. We all know WWE doesn't really look at wins and losses, but after a while, it starts to make a wrestler seem like he can't get the job done (*cough* Bray Wyatt *cough*) so it's important to make them look strong when they can. Jericho isn't a champion so it'd be a good chance to put Rollins over. However, Jericho is arguably the most over guy on the roster right now. Do you really want him taking a loss right now? My answer is, surprisingly, yes you do. Here's why. He and Kevin Owens are stronger together than apart and I think WWE can show that by having him take a loss here. Seth looks strong and Jericho can slide back into his fun heel act.
Zack's Predicted Winner: Seth Rollins
The Retro Goat:
With JeriKO dissolving, it's looking like the theme of the PPV will be that they needed each other, and this will be their darkest hour since they were both alone. Or something. Honestly, while both guys in this match are amazing, I really don't care much about the match itself. There are no stakes or anything, it's just a grudge match that's going on because Seth isn't challenging Kevin Owens. If it was a Number One Contender's match or something, at least there would be something at stake, but as of now this is just a match that's going to be fine, but pointless.
The Retro Goat's Predicted Winner: Seth Rollins
Jericho has been entertaining with his list and things and he’s more than happy with putting people over. So with that said he’ll be happy to put over Seth. I figure HHH will wait until raw tomorrow night to return to answer for why he screwed over Seth for the Universal Championship.
Joshua's Predicted Winner: Seth Rollins
Elizabeth's Predicted Winner: Seth Rollins
30-Minute Iron Man Match for the Raw Women's Championship
Sasha Banks (c) vs. Charlotte Flair
It's the end of the line for these ground-breaking, history-making, show-stealing women. Who would've thought this feud would last basically all of 2016? Many are tired of these two, but I'm still enjoying it. Yeah, it would be nice to see something different from Raw, and we're working towards that finally. Now just think about what this feud is doing for the future! I can't even find the words for how important this year has been for the women's division. All of their matches have been must-see, and this one will be no different. This could be the most emotional one yet. In the end, I really want to see Banks retain and walk into WrestleMania with the gold.
CJ's Predicted Winner: Sasha Banks
To me, this match is the main event and I hope WWE agrees with me and puts them on last. We're being told this is the last match these two will have for the title (for the foreseeable future). There will be no rematch clauses after this. I actually really like that these two have played hot potato with the championship. I know that the majority of fans don't like it but hear me out. These two are now seen as equals in most of the fans eyes because neither one can get a leg up on the other. Neither Sasha nor Charlotte is able to prove they are dominant over the other. Just when Sasha looks dominant Charlotte wins. Just when Charlotte looks dominant Sasha wins. They are equals, which does a great deal of good for both Sasha and Charlotte's characters. That's why this match is so important because it's the last match. They're equal in wins and losses and Charlotte always comes out on top in PPVs. If Charlotte wins, that's all she wrote for Sasha. If Sasha wins, she breaks Charlotte's undefeated PPV streak AND proves that she is the more dominant wrestler. I think Sasha is going to pull out the win and then in the coming weeks turn heel, leading to a rivalry with Bayley going into WrestleMania.
Zack's Predicted Winner: Sasha Banks
The Retro Goat:
I love these two, I love watching this two. But I'm really getting bored with writing about and watching the same pairing over and over and over again. Match of the night, Charlotte wins, etc etc. Thankfully we can finally move on from this.
The Retro Goat's Predicted Winner: Charlotte
The good news is that with no rematch clause this is the end of the feud because no matter who wins the other cannot challenge for the title again anytime soon!!!!! This feud should have ended with the Hell-in-A-cell match but it didn’t. Now we are going for history again with the iron man match. I predict 0-0 Sasha wins in sudden death overtime.
Joshua's Predicted Winner: Sasha Banks
Elizabeth's Predicted Winner: Sasha Banks
Universal Championship Match
Kevin Owens (c) vs. Roman Reigns
I never thought I would say this about any pay-per-view main event, but I'm seriously less interested in this match than I was for Lesnar vs. Goldberg! It lacks importance in my eyes. Reigns is the United States Champion, and should be pushed as that to build himself and the title up. Either a triple threat (Owens/Rollins/Jericho) or a four-way (Owens/Rollins/Jericho/Reigns) would've been better suited for this event. I'm sure they'll have a good match and all, but it almost doesn't matter if none of the fans care. I'd be disappointed if Reigns won the title honestly, so let's keep the belt on Owens to see where his reign can go.
CJ's Predicted Winner: Kevin Owens
I know I sound like such a mark, but I really hope Roman doesn't win. I can't put into words how much I hate that the United States Championship has become completely useless in the hands of Roman Reigns. You might as well vacate the title because it'd be the same effect. He doesn't bring it to the ring half the time, and when he does he throws it over his back so no one can even see what title it is. I remember when he came out when Mick Foley was in the ring and Foley grabbed the title from him and put it on his shoulder properly. Almost as if to say "show this title some respect." Of course, he didn't stop carrying it like that. I've seen a lot of people say that "Owens has been a terrible champion" or "Jericho is the best part of Owens' championship reign" and I've got to disagree with those things. It's part of the reason I've been distancing myself from the internet wrestling community. The same fans who were chanting "you deserve it" when KO won are the same people who are saying he's a terrible champion. I think Owens is doing great and his partnership with Jericho has only made his championship reign better, not worse. I think Owens goes over here and I hope it's in a dominant fashion.
Zack's Predicted Winner: Kevin Owens
The Retro Goat:
With Roman having this match Sunday and a Tag Team title shot on the previous Monday, I'm positive there was a moment where Vince McMahon was fantasizing about Roman as the holder of all belts and debated it for longer than we'd like to think about. Tragically, Kevin Owens has been presented as physically unable to win a single match by himself as the freakin' World Champion, and Roman's likely going to be a double belt holder if no one interfere's on KO's behalf. That is crap, but what else would anyone expect from the WWE. Let's just get this PPV over with, then we can all have "fun" watching double champ Roman.
The Retro Goat's Predicted Winner: Roman Reigns
I’m making this pick solely because I want to see the Internet meltdown and lose their mind. Do I actually think it will happen? Not really. I give it about 25% chance of happening. But Roman Reigns winning the Universal Championship would cause so much hate and tears I could drink to my fill.
Joshua's Predicted Winner: Roman Reigns
Elizabeth's Predicted Winner: Kevin Owens
