Sports Illustrated’s “Extra Mustard” blog has a new article online featuring quotes from Dixie Carter, Jeff Jarrett, Matt Hardy, Ethan Carter III and more. The piece is done to promote tonight’s episode of Impact Wrestling but features an important status update from Carter as she discussed the company’s future on Destination America. Below is an excerpt:
“The biggest challenge for us is building a brand in the U.S.,” said Carter, who is TNA’s president. “That’s where we need to grow. We’re contracted to Destination America through the end of the year, and we are in discussions going on for 2016.”
Most of the comments are about what you would expect with storyline driven lines to promote the current angles. It's later stated TNA does not have a TV provider in the United States as of February 2016. You can read the piece in its entirety at this link.
Richard Reacts: This should clear up questions surrounding TNA Wrestling's future on TV in the United States unless of course Destination America exercises their "out" clause, something that was rumored to be under consideration. If Impact remains on Destination America through 2015, that's obviously good news. As disappointing as it is to watch TNA's weekly audience vanish, it would be even worse if they lost clearance completely. However, it's noted they do not have domestic TV past February 2016, which is troubling. TNA believes they can survive international-only in some form but many -- me included -- wonder what that will look like. Further, WWE is said to have high interest in Jeff and Matt Hardy, whose deals are up in February. Ethan Carter III, quoted in the above piece, is also back on WWE's radar.
