Justin Bieber Almost Headlined SummerSlam 2014

Shares 0

Former WWE creative writer Kevin Eck continues to deliver fascinating insights about his tenure with the sports entertainment organization. In his latest, Eck blogs about the company looking to book pop star Justin Bieber in the main event at SummerSlam 2014 in Los Angeles, CA.

While I know we’ve wrote about WWE’s interest in using Bieber before, I cannot recall if we wrote anything about negotiations for SummerSlam ’14. Anyways, the proposed match was Bieber, John Cena & The Big Show vs. The Wyatt Family.

Eck’s concern was what Bieber — who would have been booed unmercifully by the WWE audience — would have done to Cena. He revealed one of the finishes discussed had the babyfaces going over but Cena becoming annoyed with Bieber to the point where he delivered an Attitude Adjustment to him after the match.

Obviously WWE was unable to reach an agreement with Bieber but it’s clear they are willing to work with him.

  • Thank God that didn’t pan out.

    • What’s amazing to me is that Vince said fans “didn’t buy the attraction” when Cena vs. Bryan headlined in 2013. And he thinks his audience would have bought Bieber. Out of touch?

      • Jay El Bee

Looking at the buys that SummerSlam got I’d say Vince was right. Second least bought SS since the WWE started releasing their numbers barely beating out 2011.

      • John H

Yeah, it’s not like this ‘Bieber’ fella has tens of millions of fans, potentially new WWE fans, to bring along, right?

  • Dave Barton

1> That main event would’ve been just plain dumb.

2> I would’ve paid top dollar if it were Biebs vs Lesnar instead of Cena vs Lesnar.

  • Jonnydingo

The scary part is that they are interested in him. I have a feeling this is not the last we will here of a possible Bieber/WWE connection.

  • Eddie Edwards

I have been a wrestling fan for the 25 years I have been alive. No matter how bad I thought anything was I have always watched. I would not have watched Summerslam had that happened

    • Pedro Moreno Pacheco

me too. i would not watch that. and seriously that could have killed bray wyatt carreer. how can you take bray seriously as a threat if he went to scare justin bieber?
if wwe needs so bad to get celebrities in the ring use the miz or someone like that.

  • Jay El Bee

Sorry I’m not buying it, that would mean Cena’s feud with the Wyatt Family would have been going on for eight months by that point. Sometimes I think these former creative writers just make these stories up to mess with the IWC since they know we are the only ones that read and listen to their stories.

So that would imply the Wyatt family would have stuck around together longer, that Bryan would not have been injured and dropped the title, that they hadn’t already promised lesnar a title run in his contract and scheduled that to start at Summerslam and as such would have needed a top face to destroy.

Sorry but I just don’t buy it.

  • Splat

It boggles my mind that they don’t know their own audience.

  • Stoney

It’s like the WWE don’t want people to stop watching. Shit like this is part of the reason why WCW went out of business

  • Michael

this would have been a disaster. thank God we got lesnar squashing cena instead
