Confirmed: Conor McGregor Relinquishes UFC Featherweight Title

The UFC announced on Saturday night that Conor McGregor relinquished the featherweight championship and decided to focus on the middleweight division, in which he is the champion. Below is an excerpt from the UFC’s official coverage:

The UFC announced the new main event on Saturday, also revealing that Jose Aldo is the promotion’s new undisputed featherweight champion after two-division titleholder Conor McGregor relinquished the 145-pound belt and decided to focus on the title he holds in the 155-pound lightweight division.

To recap, Jose Aldo is the new UFC featherweight champion and Max Holloway vs. Anthony Pettis will headline UFC 206 on December 10, 2016 for the UFC interim featherweight championship from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
