The UFC announced a week from last Saturday during the airing of UFC Fight Night 101 on Fox Sports 1 that McGregor had relinquished the featherweight championship and that Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis would fight for the interim featherweight championship at UFC 206 this Saturday. This made Jose Aldo the featherweight champion.

UFC President Dana White claimed it was Conor's decision to relinquish the belt, something Conor directly disputed last week.

McGregor (21–3) isn't expected to fight for the UFC until May due to the birth of his child. He is officially a boxer out of the state of California.
