Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com is reporting the top choice to face Tim Kennedy at UFC 206 next month is Kelvin Gastelum.
Gastelum (12-2) though was issued an administration suspension from the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) on Monday for missing the required UFC 205 weigh-ins for his scheduled fight against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.
As a result, that fight was removed from the UFC 205 card.
Gastelum’s suspension is for six months, however, it is an administration suspension, not the usual “commission suspensions” that are given to fighters on most occasions. Also, Gastelum hasn’t been suspended across the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports (ABC) database.
Gastelum’s team claims he’ll only do one fight at 185 pounds (middleweight) before going back to 170 pounds (welterweight), despite Dana White saying he would not allow for Gastelum to fight at 170 pounds again after continuous weigh-in issues.
UFC 206 will take place on Saturday, December 10, 2016 from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The event will be headlined by Daniel Cormier vs. Anthony Johnson for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.
