Billy Gunn has been hearing it from all sides regarding his match against Hiroshi Tanahashi at the G1 Special in the USA for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship. The reaction to the quality of the match was overwhelmingly negative with some people even saying that Gunn hadn't earned his place on the card despite him being a veteran of 20+ years. He had the following to say in response:
“Everyone has a platform to voice their opinions. Great. I let people have their opinions. That’s all good. Nothing has to match mine, I don’t think that everybody should or everybody has to agree. I get it. I get that a lot of people are saying, ‘What have you done?’ Well, I’ve done a lot of things. Until they look past that – I have earned a name in this business, worked hard to get it, worked hard to keep it. I happened to be a part of one of the greatest factions of all time. Let’s not undermine that at all.”
Editor's Note: I don't think Billy has anything to answer for to anyone. This idea of him not "earning" a spot on the card despite being a successful wrestler for 20+ years is absolutely ridiculous. That's more of the "holier-than-thou smart mark" mindset for you.
