On April 9th, New Japan star Katsuyori Shibata was injured when he delivered a stiff headbutt to Kazuchika Okada during their main event match. Shibata was diagnosed with a subdural hematoma and the surgery was a success, but that match with Okada may still prove to be his last one ever.
Shibata has stated that even prior to the injury, he had been having trouble with "seeing double" and it has only worsened now despite having three previous surgeries on his eyes. The treatment that Shibata is receiving now is also causing him great discomfort as it sends electrical current directly to his brain.
Shibata has very little hope of returning to the ring and says that the best thing that could happen for him right now is merely for his eyesight to get better.
