Kenny Omega tweeted the following after his main event match against Kazuchika Okada at Wrestle Kingdom 11 on Wednesday:
Thank you everyone for your support and for watching #wk11 . It was the greatest stage for me to show my vision for pro-wrestling.
The bout is already being called one of the best in the history of professional wrestling with Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer awarding it six stars. While that may not mean much to some, Meltzer doesn’t hand out ratings like that often.
I’ve watched the bout twice and will not argue. Omega vs. Okada was certainly a historic match between two phenomenal talents. Talent develop is so important when considering it wasn’t long ago Okada was working as an enhancement talent for TNA Wrestling and is now one of the biggest stars in the world. He made a giant leap from 2011 to 2012 and has still not peaked. It’s tremendous to see the people of Japan appreciate him as the transcendent talent that he is.
Omega was already considered a top star, especially after NJPW put him over in the G1 Climax last August. In talking with one of my friends in the industry, I stated that he has Bryan Danielson type talent, with the ability to carry any company on his back. There are no downfalls in his work.
The only negative that I have to express in the Wrestle Kingdom 11 main event is that I felt the commentary between Steve Corino and Kevin Kelly lacked. Meltzer was apparently fine with it as he tweeted he had not watched the match with Japanese commentary, but I felt Corino and Kelly could have done a better job.
It will be interesting to see how the match is to watch when AXS TV dubs in the commentary by Jim Ross and Josh Barnett, which is set to air Jan. 13 at 8 PM EST. I just set my DVR and you should as well.
