Orton's Head Punt, Miz Scaled Back, Bryan Chokeslam, Heyman In WWE

Why does Randy Orton no longer use the punt anymore?

Randy Orton's punt to the head of his opponents has been phased out due to WWE's stance on concussions. As we saw at Extreme Rules, the company still allows him to use it in certain situations but it's not something that you can expect to return full-time to Orton's move set. Basically, it's a move that carries a risk that WWE feels outweighs the reward. Orton was able to use it at the pay-per-view due to the Extreme Rules stipulation and the fact they were in St. Louis (his hometown) didn't hurt things. Dolph Ziggler's concussion was another sobering reminder of the dangers of spots to the head and WWE is very serious in trying to cut down the number of concussions suffered by talent.

The Miz has really fallen down the card following his WWE title match at Wrestlemania 27. When do you expect him to return to the main event scene?

The Miz took a lot of heat from people such as Dave Batista and CM Punk about being in the main event of Wrestlemania 27. The criticism was that he's a guy that doesn't have a "main event feel" and Punk actually said it was one of the reasons why he wanted to quit the company. Batista joked that he was in no hurry to return to WWE to work a program against Miz. No matter how hard Miz works, he's never going to be able to shed the perception some people have of him as a reality television star and not a pro wrestler. I feel he's a good example of someone that has worked very hard to get to the top. There is no way I can accurately predict if or when he will return to the main event scene.

Do you think Daniel Bryan will end up using the chokeslam on TV after doing it on live events?

Daniel Bryan has been doing a bit with Kane at WWE live events where he performs a chokeslam and claims he has a better one than Kane. The spot has drawn a lot of interest and I'm sure many would love to see him do it on Kane on television. We'll have to wait and see if the spot makes it on TV but it certainly appears WWE is going to go with an inevitable Bryan vs. Kane program in breaking up Team Hell No. Last week's Smackdown, and the Backstage Fallout afterwards, looked to be the beginning of gimmick progression for Bryan.

With Paul Heyman seemingly getting another big push with Curtis Axel, what is the opinion of him backstage or more specifically Mr. McMahon's opinion of Heyman?

Actually, Curtis Axel is getting a big push with Paul Heyman. Heyman already has a solidified spot as a manager for main event talent. The idea is to put Heyman with Curtis Axel to skyrocket him up the card. As for Heyman's status in WWE, his role is all business. It was CM Punk, not Brock Lesnar, that brought him back to WWE and got him a top spot in the company. As far as I know things have gone fine with Vince McMahon and Stephanie but Paul isn't heavily involved in the creative process. I have been told that Heyman has pitched creative ideas so he's not completely alienated either.

Even though the Miz seems to do everything right, I simply can’t stand him. I’ll never see him as more then a reality TV star. He has the frat boy douche bag image and I absolutely hate the “haters” gimmick that seems it shouldn’t be used out of an elementary school. If he’s going to be around, then I think he needs to turn heel……then at least I can boo him instead of silently sitting on my hands during his matches.

    • Danny_Boy

Funny because I feel the same way about CM Punk. He has that ultimate douche bag/arrogant prick image who whines & complains in every promo gimmick that shouldn’t be pushed too preschoolers, he also whines & complains backstage and he keeps pushing this stupid “I don’t get any respect” BS down the people’s throat. Punk is a jealous asshole and that showed in his DVD where he completely buried Miz even though he showed him nothing but love & respect. And Batista has even bigger issues then CM Punk believe it or not.

      • Spuddyz

That’s great but Miz can’t hold a candle to CM Punk in the ring. You can bash put all you’d like, but you can’t deny that the man is an amazing wrestler.

      • Matt

One day you’ll shock us all with a complimentary post. One day.

        • Danny_Boy

What up douche troll. I like how you stole my name and post dumb stuff. I really hope you get a life one day.

      • TheBigKing1

I feel the same way about Punk, but I think he’s good for the business because he has a lot of talent. So I will always respect him, but dislike he douchebag ass at the same time. Lol. I like him as a heel that i can boo. I guess he’s the guy I love to hate, idk.

    • TheBigKing1

      LOL. I respect your opinion

  • Speaking of The Miz I guess I’ll post this since it hasn’t been posted yet:

“The Marine 3″ remains WWE’s most successful straight-to-DVD release in a long time. After four weeks out it had sold 153,226 units for $2,292,261. That’s more than any WWE regular DVD will do this year with the possible exception of WrestleMania.

For this reason WWE should be pushing him in the main event scene. If Miz was such a terrible flop as a face he wouldn’t have sold so many DVDs. Fans are more likely to buy a DVD featuring a babyface than if he were to have stayed heel. Look at the three guys currently vying for the WHC — Miz is a much bigger star than all of them, yet people say he shouldn’t be in the main event. These DVD sales should be enough for WWE to realize that Miz is a commodity.

    • Danny_Boy

Or the fact that he drew really well as champion which I’m sure will be downplayed by the haters on this page

      • Maybe I should post those numbers again! As far as Miz goes they should definitely have him feud with Dolph Ziggler for the WHC at Summerslam. After that I would love to see a Miz/Orton (heel) feud for the WHC. They can use the fact that actual Marines protested Orton being used in the Marine in the storyline. Orton can they ridicule Miz for not being a “real” Marine, etc. It would be a great way to plug the DVD and generate animosity between the two.

Personally i like the Miz but i don’t know how this arguement even puts up a fight to the people that are saying “Miz is too much of an actor to be a good wrestler” which you just kinda proved.

    • Here’s where that data came from: http://www.the-numbers.com/movie/Marine-3-Homefront-The-DVD

But that appears to be outdated and doesn’t include Blu-Ray numbers although I obviously understand the point you are trying to make.

      • TheBigKing1

Get out of here Richard. Facts are facts. You sound like you wanna hate on The Miz or something, like you don’t want him to get the credit that he deserves.

        • Loren Goldstein

Did you really just tell the owner of this website to leave?

  • jansen

Since im not from the US i didnt know the Miz back in his reality tv days but really dont like him as main event talent either. I just don’t “feel” that guy. He always comes across as an actor playing a wrestler. Thats just not good enough for me.

    • Robert Olley

He did a film called the real world the lost season. Its the only thing i could find with him in here in the uk and its a pretty decent watch. Also people bash miz for being a reslity star but wasnt tough enough a reality show?

  • Stoney

Batista was only pushed because of Vinces fetish for big strong men.
CM Punk should be grateful he got a big main event push, as Vince doesn’t usually push wrestlers that made it on their own.
Miz worked hard to get to where he is today, he improved in the ring and on the mic. But I think he was blamed for poor buy rates at Survivor series 2011.

    • Smart Mark

Let’s be real here, Batista is more talented than other big guys. He had way more moves than most of them and could hold up a match on his own. The guy was basically groomed into a wrestler by HHH and RIc Flair. Not to mention that he can pull off being a main event face and heel and he is gold on the mic.

      • TheBigKing1

      • Superfly

Batista was terrible on the mic and his in ring skills were lacking. He over sold and his stupid laugh annoyed me. IMO he is on of the most over rated wrestlers of all time.

  • Kenneth

Miz has done very well to establish himself and I’ve a lot of respect for what he’s accomplished in that regard. The only problem with Miz is his appearance. I just don’t buy into him being a credible threat to anyone anywhere.

Whenever he scowls at the camera or tries to look angry he looks like an eleven year old trying to look mean and threatening. Rather than lay me out with some sort of high impact move or wrap me up in the figure 4 I expect him to walk up and start shouldering my chest while going ‘Come on then, come on if you think you’re hard, come on, ya scared?”

He’s very talented and has a lot of potential but that’s always going to hold him back. He’s too groomed, and that’s fine in real life, but not for a wrestler.

  • tomcatjerrymouse

The Miz had his moment in the sun and now he’ll have to get used to being a midcarder for the rest of his WWE career. In the WWE, if you don’t cater to fans under the age of ten, sell a bunch of merchandise or if you’re not a muscle bound freak of nature, you either don’t make it to the top or if you do, you won’t last long, no matter how good you are in the ring.

wether you like heyman or loath him you can’t deny he is one of the most gifted people “creatively” in wrestling I say give him his spot back on the writing team i mean the writing on raw and smackdown can’t get much worse could it heyman could even make cena look cool.
ok maybe not but he could make him less annoying.
Anyway hasn’t the head writer position of raw been up for grabs like 3 or 4 times this year seems like their struggling to keep anybody writing this garbage on my tv screen just give Paul the reigns already.
