Big Return Off, Crossover Angle On Raw, Future Programs For Ambrose, Ziggler & More After SummerSlam

- News broke early Sunday morning that Shelton Benjamin failed his WWE physical as it was discovered he has a torn rotator cuff. The company had already been promoting his return as a Smackdown superstar but all that is off until he recovers from injury. Once he is able to get back, one would think he would still draw WWE consideration but there is no incentive for them to sign someone with a serious shoulder injury. You can read our initial coverage at this link.

- WWE is advertising an angle between brand general managers Mick Foley and Daniel Bryan for tomorrow night’s episode of Monday Night Raw. As the storyline goes, Foley “invited” Bryan to the show and Bryan has accepted the invite. The premise to the invitation is the cross-over angle between Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton to promote their match at SummerSlam.

- After garnering heat for his comments about the WWE roster in a media conference call last week, Conor McGregor tweeted this: ”I didn't mean no disrespect to the @wwe fans. What I meant to say was that I'd slap the head off your entire roster. And twice on Sunday’s.”

- Both Roman Reigns and Kurt Angle responded to McGregor. First Reigns, ”Your the size of my leg. Shut up.” With a grammar correction: ”You're* sorry grammar geeks, Smh.” Angle wrote this: ”...very funny little guy. Why don't you get your head out of Dana White's ass”

- We have some post-WWE SummerSlam rumors. There is talk about AJ Styles challenging Dean Ambrose for the WWE Championship, Randy Orton being programmed against Bray Wyatt, with Dolph Ziggler going back to a midcard role. Plans are always changing and this is extremely preliminary but make sure to take note.

- It started to circulate Friday on Twitter that WWE Women’s Champion Sasha Banks got married to Sarath "Mikaze" Ton. We’re unable to confirm at press time but the photo of Banks in what appears to be a wedding dress is available at this link.

- WWE has been running a storyline injury angle with Big E, noting on dot com that he suffered a contusion to his groin area and it’s unknown when he’ll be able to return to the ring. The kayfabe angle is that the injury was a result of Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows beating him down on Raw.

- reports that WWE will release a new Randy Orton DVD called "Randy Orton: RKO Outta Nowhere” on November 15, 2016. It will also be available on Blu-Ray.

- Below are quick results from last night’s UFC Fight Night 92:

Yair Rodríguez b. Alex Caceres via split decision in five rounds (46-49, 48-47, 48-47)

Dennis Bermudez b. Rony Jason via unanimous decision in three rounds (30-27, 30-26, 30-27)

Thales Leites b. Chris Camozzi via submission (rear-naked choke) in round three (2:48)

Santiago Ponzinibbio b. Zak Cummings via unanimous decision in three rounds (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)

Trevor Smith b. Joe Gigliotti via unanimous decision in three rounds (30-26, 30-26, 30-26)

Maryna Moroz b. Danielle Taylor via split decision in three rounds (28-29, 29-28, 30-27)

I hope once Summerslam and the Orton/Lesnar angle is over they stop doing any kind of brand crossover stuff until the Royal Rumble. I didn’t necessarily want the brand split in the first place but now it’s here they should go all in with it and keep the shows totally unrelated otherwise it’s pointless.

  • Patrick

didn’t take long all of a couple days for the Brand split to be useless. thanks to the Lesner/ Orton angle. idontlike ‘ the Brand split at all…neverwasa fan of it the first time or now….. I’m not suprised that Ziggler would go back to midcard after Summer Slam.

    • Zack

I would hardly say that 2 wrestlers crossing brands makes the split “useless.” 98% of the wrestling roster is still exclusive to Raw or Smackdown.

      • Ray

Plus the plan always was to do the big 4 inter-promotional and the first PPV of the “New Era” just so happens to be inter-promotional (Which means Inter-Promotional content, of course)

      • Gary Robert

Agreed. I don’t think it hurts the split at all. I also don’t think crossover angles here and there to mix things up will also do anything but make things better.

    • Xavier

How is useless? Even during the original split they would have guys from RAW/SD feud every so often. No big deal unless it’s every other match which isn’t the case here.

      • Dwayne

True fact I like the split but I wish they would put the right people in the right spot and less talk and more action

    • Dwayne

They always push ziggler to the back he is one of the hardest working guys in the business so underutilized

    • Avalanchian

The split allows for more people to be upper card instead of buried in midcard when they shouldn’t be.

  • Xavier

Aj being the guy to take the title off of Ambrose makes all the sense in the world. That should be a really good feud. I kind of figured Ambrose/Ziggler would be a one off to further establish Ambrose and get him another credible title defense under his belt.

So I’m assuming Orton/Brock won’t have a clean finish here. Looks like Wyatt will cost Orton at Summerslam.

    • Gary Robert

Just because they know where Orton’s next feud is headed doesn’t necessarily mean it has to begin b/c of any sort of interference.

      • Xavier

True but look at how Wyatt usually starts new feuds

        • Gary Robert

No, I get it. Just saying its not a definite.

    • David F

SummerSlam should not end in another dirty finish like last year. The exclusive RAW and Smackdown PPVS can end in dirty finishes but SummerSlam needs to be clean finish. The ending of Lesnar and Taker from last year was terrible ending to an entertaining match

  • Andrew

aj vs ambrose ? bray vs orton? count me in! but what about cena? maybe heel ziggler vs cena?

    • Xavier

Cena will be taking time off to go film season 2 of his reality show

  • Gary Robert

    lol @ Conor McGregor

  • -|AZ|-

    Reigns’ comment was hilarious 😀

  • Avalanchian

I’d love to see a tournament where Smackdown and Raw each have one to determine the ultimate champion for a year. Have it at night of champions. It would simply be a label of Champion of Champions. That would give the Raw/Smackdown some rivalry type smack talk.

    • Xavier

That defeats the purpose of the entire brand split

    • Dave Barton

Might as well be King of the Ring if it’s going to be a tournament. I love an occasional tournament, but admittedly I got a little bored with the KotR gimmick itself.
