Recently, I saw an article online about how terrifyingly strong Hafthór Júlíus Björnsson, or as he is better known as, The Mountain from HBO's Game of Thrones, truly is. Spoilers: he is insanely strong. As a big fan of both WWE and Game of Thrones I started thinking about what an absolutely brilliant idea it would be for WWE to sign him. Even if WWE were to only offer him a part timer contract I would be in favor of it. WWE brings him in as the guy who finally beats The Beast, Brock Lesnar, because who would argue with that man coming in and dominating?
Before I start into why this is such a great idea, let me give you some of Mr. Björnsson's resume to let it sink in as to why he's already got the perfect qualifications to walk in and beat The Beast. Here are some of his biggest accomplishments:
-Bench Press: 230 kg (510 lbs)
-Deadlift: 420 kg (925.9 lbs)
-Squat: 350 kg (770 lbs)
-2nd place in the World's Strongest Man Competition
-1st place in the 2014 Europe's Strongest Man Competition
-1st place in Iceland's Strongest Man competition in 2011, 2012, 2013 AND 2014
-On January 31, 2015, Björnsson beat a 1000-year-old record set by Orm Storolfsson at the World’s Strongest Viking competition in Norway, where he carried a 32 feet (9.8 m) long 1,433 pounds (650 kg) log for five steps. That's right, he defeated a record that stood for a MILLENNIUM.
-Oh and did I mention he is ONLY 26 YEARS OLD?!
On top of his extreme accomplishments in weight lifting, Hafthór is very well known for his role in HBO's popular television series "Game of Thrones" where he plays the character named The Mountain. Think about the MASSIVE amount of publicity that WWE would get by signing Hafthór to a contract. If WWE is good at nothing else, it is riding the coattails of someone else's success to get their name out. Game of Thrones has an enormous fan following that could help WWE's stock skyrocket even higher. Their name would be all over social media, news websites and television shows with the headline "'Game of Thrones' The Mountain signs WWE contract." Every time he wrestled, there would be a massive amount of news stories hyping it. From people who normally cover wrestling to people who usually don't give WWE a second glance. People who would have never turned on WWE programming will tune in just to see what he does. If WWE had any sense in their heads they would have his ring name be "The Mountain."
Hafthór is so freakishly strong that it wouldn't take him long convince fans he is the guy who could beat Brock Lesnar. His look alone is enough to convince fans, Hafthór stands at 6 ft 9 inches, and weights nearly 400 lbs, with no lack of muscle mass. It wouldn't be hard for Hafthór to throw Big Show around like a toddler, to truly show off his dominance. You bring him in, show him off, and then have him target The Beast, Brock Lesnar. The match these two would have would have serious hype around it. The former NCAA, UFC, and WWE Champion takes on the man who beat a legend that stood for a millennium. The Beast vs. The Mountain, even just typing that gave me chills. If WWE is supposed to about hype and entertainment, look no further. Now on top of everything, add in the fact that Paul Heyman would be involved, too. Paul Heyman has some of the best mic skills the business has ever seen. If you add the electricity he adds to any situation, on top of the natural electricity there would be surrounding this match, it would create one of the biggest moments in WWE history.
Imagine if you will, Brock Lesnar returns as a face (tweener) in a few months and mows down some heels until WrestleMania season. As we hit the Road to WrestleMania, Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman come out and Heyman says that Brock Lesnar is bored in the WWE. That Lesnar has done it all, he conquered WWE's best wrestlers like John Cena, Triple H, and Roman Reigns, he conquered the WWE Championship, he conquered The Undertaker's legendary WrestleMania streak! What is left for Brock Lesnar to conquer? There is nothing in this business for Brock Lesnar to conquer! That's when The Mountain comes out, and Lesnar backs away in fear. With Lesnar garnering a babyface reaction the smart move would be to have Heyman turn on Lesnar and align him with Hafthór, and let Lesnar's actions speak for him. The two go into WrestleMania with more hype than any other match, and put on a powerhouse showdown for the ages. Honestly, these guys are perfect for each other in the ring, too. Some people will say that Hafthór might be more dangerous in the ring because he is so unbelievably strong. People say the same thing about Lesnar, though, so the two together will be alright because they're both tough as nails.
