Cody Rhodes and his wife Eden (Brandi Runnels) have taken aim at fans upset over Rhodes returning to WWE television as Stardust on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw. Apparently a large number of fans felt WWE blew an opportunity to reset Rhodes without the Stardust gimmick.
One of the reasons the Stardust name means so much to Rhodes is that his father, Dusty Rhodes, gave him a referee’s shirt with the name “Stardust” embroidered on it. Dusty also worked with the name “Stardust” embroidered on his trunks. Check out a photo at this link.
So the point to take away here is the “Stardust” character is somewhat part of Cody honoring his father Dusty Rhodes. My issue isn’t with Cody working as Stardust or Cody himself, it’s WWE’s reluctance to push him as more than a proverbial midcard talent. As I wrote under Eden’s “Reality Check” blog, I don’t care who Cody works as, I just want to see him get a legitimate shot at something above the midcard. I believe his track record of success has earned him that.
