Sheamus’s Money in the Bank ladder match win was literally a year in the making.

Former WWE creative team member Kevin Eck detailed a plan he pitched to Vince McMahon for Sheamus to go over in the bout last year in a new blog entry.

The original plan for Sheamus in 2014 was for him to go heel in a program with Daniel Bryan at Wrestlemania XXX. However, as most of us know, the rise of Bryan’s extreme popularity along with CM Punk’s unexpected departure changed that plan.

Eck recalled pitching the idea for Sheamus to go over in the Money in the Bank ladder match as a way to finally pull the trigger on the heel turn but the plan was changed when Bryan wasn’t medically cleared to compete. While a traditional Money in the Bank ladder match was later added (and won by Seth Rollins), Sheamus had already qualified for the bout for the title (that was won by John Cena).
