Welcome to the latest edition of The Five-Count! I hope you all are enjoying your Memorial Day weekend. We've finally been through Payback, and now Elimination Chamber is literally right around the corner on Sunday. With out further ado, let's jump in!
Superstar of the Week: Kevin Owens
There were a handful of people who dominated the headlines this week. One of them was the NXT Champion Kevin Owens. The "rookie" appeared on Raw last week to confront the United States Champion John Cena. No one in recent memory, at the "level" Owens is at, has ever attacked Cena like that! It was so evil! At NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable, Owens went to battle with former friend and rival Sami Zayn in an amazing brawl. Owens and Zayn have some amazing chemistry. Owens' actions during the match even led to Samoa Joe debuting! To say the least, Owens is already making a big name for himself in the WWE. The future is bright for this guy.
Match of the Week: Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch - NXT Women's Title Match
It isn't a coincidence that NXT has named their live specials TakeOver. These ladies and gents have even taken over my Five-Count! NXT has produced quality Divas matches for over a year now, and the matches only keep getting better and better. Sasha Banks has done a fantastic job as NXT Women's Champion since February when she won that amazing four-way match at Rival. Her former friend, Becky Lynch, has also done a great job at making an impact in NXT. Banks and Lynch collided last week in yet another incredible Divas match. The action was hard-hitting from the very beginning, and it didn't stop! I don't even know how to describe this match. Sasha and Becky tore the house down. Watch this match!
The Highlight: The Shield's Brief Reunion
Those who have read my articles over the last two years will know that I was a huge fan of The Shield (and I still am). At Payback, the three former Shield members and Randy Orton were put together in one epic four-way main event for Seth's WWE Championship. The match was fantastic as I expected, and was going to be the match of the week until TakeOver aired. What was the best part of Payback? The brief moment that The Shield reunited to send Orton crashing through a table was. I guess you could say I don't "mark out" for a lot of things, but I marked out like crazy for this! Sure, they may not be together again (yet), but it certainly put a smile on my face.
The Lowlight: Raw's Title Matches
WWE announced prior to last week's Raw that we would see three championships defended that night. I was excited, because I loved the fact that all of them were happening. While Raw turned out to be a good one, I couldn't help but be disappointed by the fact that one of the title matches didn't happen, and the other two both ended in disqualification. I thought for sure it would be Naomi's night to win the Divas Championship, but it was not. Better luck next time, right?
Predictions For Tonight's Raw
I foresee a singles match between Dolph Ziggler and Rusev taking place on Raw tonight. Both are competing in the Elimination Chamber on Sunday, and the storyline with Lana makes perfect sense for why the match would happen. Meanwhile, it wouldn't shock me if Ryback and R-Truth teamed up to challenge Sheamus and King Barrett. I'm sure we will see one, if not more, tag team matches to hype the Tag Team Championship Chamber Match. Naomi vs. Paige would be another great match to take place tonight. I will even go as far to say that Kevin Owens will lay out John Cena once again on Raw! There you go, WWE. Here's some booking that makes sense.
Even though Elimination Chamber throws in lack of build for Money in the Bank, I'm still pumped for the bonus PPV. The card is rather stacked at this point. I hope WWE uses their brains for tonight's Raw with it being a holiday.
