With the recent promotions of Neville, the Ascension, and Lucha Dragons to the main WWE roster thoughts now turn to who will be the next name or names to be called up for their moment in the spotlight. NXT has been the breeding ground for some of WWE's top names over the last few years with Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, and Bray Wyatt among the names of the most successful to transition to the main stage. NXT is full of so much talent and could well be given an even biger boost should free agent Samoa Joe sign with WWE, as he is expected to do in the coming weeks. Right now I believe there are at least four names who are close to breaking out and taking that next step to the main roster.
The first of those names is the man above, Finn Balor. The Irish sensation has quickly risen to become one of the most popular NXT Superstars to date and he has all the right attributes both inside and outside of the ring to help make him a success. Balor rose to fame on the independent circuit working under the name Prince Devitt, and it is that gimmick and character that has helped make him such a huge success in NXT. From his breath taking and spectacular entrance to the high flying and fast paced action in the ring Balor has shown everyone why he believes he shouldn't have to spend too long in NXT, before making his way to the big time. Balor will no doubt be well received by the WWE Universe, and already in my mind I have images of Balor and Bray Wyatt entering the same ring with their spectacular entrances and having one heck of a feud. The sooner Balor is called up in my mind the better.
We also have Sami Zayn, who worked under the name El Generico before making the move to WWE. Zayn, very much like Daniel Bryan, made his way to the top of his field by being without doubt the best wrestler on the roster last year. His NXT matches with Cesaro during last year helped establish Zayn as one of the standout stars on the NXT roster who the fans were very quick to get behind. Zayn would realize a dream and become the NXT Champion, only to sadly lose it to Kevin Owens, while also having to deal with injury issues that have hampered him the last couple of months. What makes Zayn so exciting is his high flying, fast paced style and the fact that the NXT Universe can relate to his character being somewhat of an underdog. Zayn has already worked live events for WWE, and in my mind is only a short time away from the call up to the main roster he deserves. He will make a fantastic United States or Intercontinental Champion in years to come and who knows, he could even make a great WWE World Heavyweight Champion one day. I wouldn't mind seeing Zayn renew his feud with Cesaro when he is first called up but we will have to wait and see what the future holds.
The international flavor and style Hideo Itami brings to the ring is without doubt one of the most compelling things about this character. Itami was a huge name in Japan, where he worked under the name Kenta, and his signing with WWE while the company was on a tour of Japan tells you just how much the company thinks of him and his potential to one day become a huge star. He has all the right skills in the ring to put on an entertaining match no matter who his opponent is and has demonstrated how good he is in every match he has been involved in so far. Itami without question has the opportunity and the talent to become the biggest Japanese born Superstar in WWE history and will no doubt go on to become a huge main event star for the company. Itami is another huge favorite of the NXT Universe and could well have some interesting matches when he is first called up. Just imagine the kind of matches Itami could have against a name like Dolph Ziggler, Daniel Bryan, or even Seth Rollins. Lets hope we don't have to spend much longer imagining what those matches could be like.
The final man who I predict big things for when he makes it to the main roster is the current NXT Champion, Kevin Owens. Working under the name Kevin Steen, Owens rose to fame on the independent circuit and quickly became one of the biggest sensations and names in the wrestling world. His work in the ring so far has been second to none with some great matches so far against names like Sami Zayn and Neville, and his feud with Alex Riley has been very intriguing and entertaining so far. His brutal in ring style mixed with his ability to hit hard hitting, fast paced moves makes Owens the man to watch out for when he is called up to the main roster. Owens will no doubt be a force to be reckoned with over the coming years, and I cannot wait to see the matches he can have with the likes of John Cena, Randy Orton, Roman Reigns, and other potential top names like Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, Daniel Bryan, and Dolph Ziggler. Without question I believe Owens is the top name on the NXT roster and the one with the most potential to succeed on the main roster in WWE.
NXT is the place to be if you are a wrestling fan as it is full of some of the most exciting up and coming talent that the world of wrestling has seen in some time. Questions were raised about the future of NXT and how it would cope when it lost names like Rollins, Wyatt, and Neville, but it has always transitioned and become bigger than before. With the potential signing of Samoa Joe, as well as the signing of a top potential name in Uhaa Nation, and the return of Tough Enough to find the next WWE Superstar, the future has never looked brighter for WWE. There are so many exciting names on the NXT roster I couldn't even get into my top four who I am sure will play a vital role in helping NXT remain the huge success it has become. The future of WWE is looking very bright right now and I for one cannot wait to see what the future has in store.
