Please take this seriously - with Wrestlemania XXX coming up (and Vince McMahon's history of having a sophomoric sense of humor) do you see Wrestlemania having at least a segment where they allude to it being triple X and get a bit risqué?
I've been asked this a couple of times leading up to this year's show and there's always a chance. You are correct in that Vince McMahon is known for having a bit of a sophomoric sense of humor but something he takes very seriously is the way his product is perceived. Wrestlemania is a very, very big deal to WWE and an even bigger deal this year due to the launch of the WWE Network. He would not want their version of the Super Bowl to receive negative publicity for some stupid joke.
I recently read one of JR's blogs and in it he mentions Roman Reigns's "Superman Punch" and that he's smart to continue to try new things to not get stuck in a predictable rut and that adding something new to his game indicates that he is thinking of ways to improve. Wrestlers stuck in a set routine and who are so egocentric that they are resistant to change any thing about what they do inside the ring are bound to stop growing professionally. Aside from the money machine John Cena is, do you think this might be another reason (along with character progression) older fans are not high up on Cena anymore? And why hasn't Cena realized this and kept adding to his repertoire?
Jim Ross makes a good point and Roman Reigns is wise in trying to expand his move set to continue to set himself apart from other workers. However, I do not view John Cena as someone egocentric that is resistant to change. What John does works. I know all the punch lines from fans that call Cena's move set the "5 moves of doom" but the fact of the matter is John Cena draws. People buy tickets to WWE shows because of John Cena. People order pay-per-views and watch weekly television shows because of John Cena. I am as frustrated as the next person over the lack of character progression with Cena but when you have something that works as well as his character does, they're going to ride it for as long as they can. The older I get the more I respect John and the more I realize just how badly WWE needs him.
Have you heard anything regarding Toby Keith's involvement in the proposed pro wrestling promotion with Jeff Jarrett? Is it purely financial or will he be working alongside Jarrett? Does he really have a passion for the business or is he just a rich guy looking for a new toy?
From what I understand Toby Keith is a huge wrestling fan and is in this for more than just a "toy." Toby Keith was the financial backer of a group looking to purchase TNA Wrestling. Jeff Jarrett was acting as a liaison between TNA, where he is a minority owner, and the Keith group, to try and get a deal done. TNA rejected the offer over money and Jarrett and Keith decided to go out on their own, which was a concern within TNA. We outlined the group's aspirations to purchase TNA in early December 2013 at this link. As for the promotion, little is known as they are still in the beginning stages. Their aspirations are significant, however, as not only are they in the market for top talent but they also want a mainstream television deal. All of these things are easier said than done but TNA certainly has some competition if this makes it off the ground. That's another thing I'll caution. Starting a professional wrestling company is no easy task and is something that requires a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication. We'll see what happens.
If the hangup in WWE getting exclusive rights to Universal Studios for their physical Hall of Fame is the fact Universal wants them to tape a show there, why not tape the much talked about cruiserweight project from there?
Taping the proposed cruiserweight show for the WWE Network from Universal Studios has come up in the discussion regarding the physical WWE Hall of Fame from the theme park. At this point it looks like the domestic TV contract is now part of the usage of Universal so I assume WWE is waiting to see what happens with that before making a further commitment. I know WWE is very happy with their relationship with Full Sail University and do not want to upset them by taping somewhere else, however, we should get a much better idea of what's going to happen when the new television deal is announced.
What's Emma's standing in WWE? She didn't seem to have the best of debuts.
WWE is high up on Emma as a developmental Diva, which was why she was called up. She has a large fan base because of her work in NXT and her work in Australia that preceded it. I didn't like the why she debuted but she's been better since. It's too early to judge one way or the other as everyone needs some time to get their feet wet.
Do you believe it could be a mistake to book Brock Lesnar vs. The Undertaker at Wrestlemania XXX, with the inevitable possibility that Lesnar loses?
Brock Lesnar hasn't been protected in his latest run in WWE. I've been heavily critical of the company's usage of him but putting him under to John Cena in his first bout back at Extreme Rules a couple of years ago told me all I needed to know. Given the fact they haven't protected him, I'm not sure how a loss to Undertaker would hurt him. It is still a top level match.
WWE has made it clear they will be including every pay-per-view from the past in their on demand library on the WWE Network but will they be including any of their movies?
I haven't heard if WWE Studios projects will be featured on the WWE Network or not. Preliminary discussions were that WWE wanted it to be more than just a pro wrestling network, which was the reason for content such as Legends' House, however, I cannot confirm or deny that WWE Studios films will be included as of this writing.
