WWE News

The Daily Star has a new Q&A online with Dave Batista. Never at a loss for words, Batista hammers the current WWE product and targets The Miz. Below is an excerpt:

“It’s brutal. I can’t watch it. I can’t connect with it. I no longer know this business. I don’t do PG wrestling.

“Love me or hate me, when I was there everyone took one look at me and knew I could beat someone up. I don’t think they look at Miz that way.”

“The guys today will never get to that level. It’s sad, but that’s the reason for it.”

- WWE has footage on their official website of Dr. Chris Amann discussing the camera man that was "injured" on Smackdown by a Mark Henry chair shot. You can watch it at this link. (Thanks to WNW reader Patrick Peralta for sending us the link.)

- Wrestling News World writer Rick Craig sent this in... CM Punk was rated as #16 in Business Insider's list of 20 Most Valuable Players for 2011 in the world of sports. From the publication: "There was a brief stretch this summer where pro wrestling was relevant, and that's all because of Punk. His feud with WWE felt so real that he put the entire sport back in the spotlight."

- The daughter of Eddie and Vickie Guerrero, now working as Raquel Diaz, won the Florida Divas Title on Thursday night from Audrey Maria. For all the Florida Championship Wrestling title holders, click here. (Thanks to WNW writer Rick Craig for sending this in.)

- Former WWE Tough Enough contestant Ivelisse Velez is now working under a WWE developmental contract in Florida Championship Wrestling. (Thanks to WNW reader Fernando for sending this in.)

- WWE is now selling "Cena Sucks" t-shirts as they were spotted at this weekend's Raw house shows. Wrestling News World reader Nick sent us a photo of the anti-Cena garment:

One of Cena's Twitter followers asked him about the t-shirt and he wrote the following:

Skip Sheffield's Twitter account, which had all its tweets deleted months ago, has posted a number of cryptic tweets today. Sheffield, who has been out for over a year with complications that began with a broken ankle, returned earlier this month at a Raw house show, defeating Alex Riley. To fuel speculation, WWE has trademarked Ryback, Sheffield's previous "Terminator" gimmick, and one of the tweets mentions "it begins." Sheffield's tweets are compiled below:

I refuse to type it yyywid is fake, accept n forget. My life my rules. Born n raised in Sin City, soon a psycho will be unleashed.

Who am I? Only time will tell, but rest assured narkboys Im not a Terminator sent to save John Connor. I also hate College Station #Fake

Sitting in a chair at a table in Sin City wondering why this ladder is in front of me? Laughing at the gossip, the Secret Power, it begins..

After months of jokes by The Rock directed at John Cena, Cena is now slated to appear on boxes of Fruity Pebbles cereal. The cross-promotional deal between WWE and Post Foods features Cena on the front and back of the box, and offers the chance to meet Cena, seats at a WWE event, and more. Wrestling News World reader Matt sent in the following pictures, posted below:

- Zack Ryder beat Dolph Ziggler at tonight's WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view from the 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, Maryland to win the WWE United States Championship. Zack's father was sitting ringside for the match, wearing a Ryder headband.

- Big Show beat Mark Henry to win the World Heavyweight Championship at tonight's WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view from the 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore, Maryland. Show got the win after attacking Henry with chairs and delivering the WMD.

Once Henry "recovered" from Show's finisher, he took Big Show out in a post match beat down.

This led to Daniel Bryan coming out, cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase and pinning Big Show to win the World Heavyweight Championship in less than 10 seconds.

WWE has uploaded video in which you can view embedded below:

Richard Reacts: I didn't like how Big Show ended Mark Henry's run. The match was terrible and completely lacked any type of crowd reaction. The only way I can give it a pass is if Henry is legitimately injured. As for Daniel Bryan "cashing in" and winning the belt, I think it's awesome. Bryan is the best in-ring worker in the company, however, I have legitimate concerns about what type of title reign he's going to be given. Can he make it until Wrestlemania XXVIII? There's nothing I've seen that would indicate he will based on how he has been booked in WWE so far.

- The word going around tonight's WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view is that Mark Henry is suffering from a legitimate injury which the reason for him dropping the World Heavyweight Championship. BG James, who is now working as a producer backstage in WWE and was actually seen on tonight's pay-per-view, Tweeted on Thursday Henry was headed to the hospital. While James said it had to do with his ankle, there is no firm word as to what is wrong with Mark Henry. Henry was extremely limited in tonight's match against Big Show which fueled rumors he had an injury that was serious enough to end a push that WWE had heavily invested in.

- The following Tweets were posted by Dave Batista and CM Punk:

- Kevin Nash finished up as an active in-ring performer in WWE on last night's pay-per-view. Nash remains under a Legend's contract and can still be used, however, there are no plans for him to resume wrestling at this time. This is the reason for the stretcher angle that was done. Below is a Tweet from Nash:

You can get my thoughts on Nash vs. Triple H at WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs at this link. - WWE premiered the first commercial for Royal Rumble 2012 during last night's WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view. The ad features Santino Marella and can be viewed in the video embedded below: Royal Rumble 2012 will take place Sunday, January 29, 2012 from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri. We'll have exclusive live play-by-play coverage here at - is reporting that Saturday's 1-hour special airing of WWE Tribute to the Troops did a 0.6 rating with a 2 share in the 18-49 demographic. The show also averaged 2,080,000 viewers on NBC. - Skip Sheffield has people talking again with the following Tweets:

Sheffield returned to WWE at a Raw house show earlier this month after being gone since August 2010. It should also be noted Sheffield is posting under his real name of Ryan Reeves. - Rumors are beginning to surface that Chris Hero was not signed to a WWE contract because he failed a drug test. I'm told the issue is actually a little more complicated than that. WWE puts prospective performers through baseline testing before a contract can be signed. This is where the performer is tested for diseases and their testosterone levels are evaluated. According to one source close to the situation, Hero's testosterone levels came back elevated. Hero cannot be signed until his levels test within the acceptable range. - WWE posted an "injury update" on Kevin Nash on their official website. According to their update, following last night's WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs This is much different than Nash's Tweet which suggested he was finished. There were approximately 78 Twitter references at the pay-per-view which is up significantly from the approximately 47 references at Survivor Series. A Twitter reference includes any mention of a Tweet, Trending, Hashtags and Superstar Twitter handles. - Alberto Del Rio was injured in the main event of last night's Raw Supershow from Philadelphia. It's believed Del Rio injured his groin during a spot with World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan. He underwent evaluation in the locker room and was in a considerable amount of pain. However, it's believed he is not seriously injured and won't be missing any in-ring action. - Alberto Del Rio wasn't the only injury at last night's Raw Supershow. Beth Phoenix was stiffed by Alicia Fox in their match and suffered bad bruising to her face. She posted photos on Twitter that can be viewed at this link. - WWE will return to Russia next April. The company has announced a house show from the Luzhniki Small Sports Arena on April 11, 2012. - A lot of people backstage at last night's WWE Raw Supershow were raving about Ricardo Rodriguez's bump from WWE TLC. Kane drew the DQ when he used a chair. - WWE has finalized dates and venues for the following pay-per-views next year:

  • WWE Elimination Chamber on Sunday, February 19th from the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
  • Wrestlemania XXVIII on Sunday, April 1st from the Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida
  • WWE Extreme Rules on TBA from the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois.
  • WWE Over the Limit on Sunday, May 20th from the RBC Center in Raleigh, North Carolina
  • WWE Money in the Bank on TBA from the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It's interesting I call these "pay-per-views" as this might not be the case following Wrestlemania XXVII with the launch of the WWE Network. - - WWE filmed material for two prospective WWE Network shows at Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida earlier this month. The first shows taped were one-hour shows highlighting Florida Championship Wrestling workers. The company also taped a half-hour special on Sheamus & Daniel Bryan beating Cody Rhodes & Drew McIntyre. While the first shows were centered around highlighting the developmental process, the second show focuses on a specific match. All material taped was pilot footage, meaning it may or may not be used. - Speaking of the WWE Network, WWE is currently running a job listing, searching for a Vice President of Digital and Social Media to help launch the network. While people will begin to speculate a return of LayCool, Layla was hinting at her return from knee surgery and not a return for their duo. Layla is expected back soon after undergoing surgery to repair torn ligaments in her knee.

- In an update to the 2012 WWE pay-per-view schedule, WWE Extreme Rules is scheduled for Sunday, April 29, 2012 from the Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois. The Allstate Arena is the home of next week's Raw Supershow. For local event information, click here.

- Former NBA superstar Shaquille O'Neal confirmed in an interview this week on The Abe Kanan Show on Sirius/XM that he is in negotiations with WWE to appear at Wrestlemania XXVIII next year in Miami. O'Neal said the current plan was for him to wrestle Big Show. WWE wanted to book LeBron James for the show but due to the fact the NBA lockout has ended, he is obviously unavailable as the Heat play in Boston on April 1, 2012.

- WWE has updated their key performance indicators for 2011, revealing the preliminary Survivor Series buyrate. The show did between 280,000 and 300,000 total buys. This number is up from the 244,000 buys the show did last year and 235,000 buys the show did in 2009. Survivor Series 2011 featured The Rock's first match since his in-ring retirement in 2004. Rock teamed with John Cena to beat The Miz & R-Truth.

  • Tombstone! History of The Undertaker
  • History of the WWE Championship
  • The New and Improved DX!
  • The Triumph and Tragedy of World Class Championship Wrestling
  • Edge: A Decade of Decadence

  • The Shawn Michaels Story: Heartbreak and Triumph
  • WWE: The Road Warriors
  • The Nature Boy Ric Flair: The Definitive Collection

- In a recent interview with The Gazette, Jim Ross spoke openly about his role in WWE. Below is an excerpt:

“I’m a senior advisor, like a consultant. I still play the “J.R.” character on television. It’s a recurring role on TV, just that. I’m a senior advisor in talent relations and talent-development. I’m actively engaged in recruiting, training and observing rookies in the system, the next generation of sports-entertainment performers that are trained in the WWE’s facility in Tampa. I’ll spend more time in that area than I did when I was executive vice president and the primary play-by-play voice of the brand.”

JR spoke primarily about Oklahoma Sooners football in the piece and mentioned he has six season tickets.

- Embedded in the video below is the latest episode of Z! True Long Island Story, featuring Zack Ryder:

- Mark Henry is quoted in the January 2012 issue of WWE Magazine where he said he considered retiring from wrestling before his run as a top star on Smackdown. He cited wanting to spend more time with his kids and the various aches and pains from so many years in the business. While a lot of people will blow this quote up, Henry had more interesting comments to The West Australian in May 2011. The original article featuring the quote is no longer online, however, it was here that Mark Henry said he would retire after wrestling another year-and-a-half. Henry, 41, is currently injured but worked this week's TVs.

- Eden Stiles posted the following on Twitter when questioned about her release:

While I'm not sure what all is out there, Stiles is "blaming the dirt sheets" for getting the details of her WWE departure wrong. As I reported earlier this week, Stiles requested her release late last month and it was processed. She worked her final show on Tuesday night in Richmond, Virginia.

- Alberto Del Rio has been pulled from the list of advertised talent for Monday's Raw Supershow on The company has also pulled him from scheduled bookings on next week's Holiday Tour Raw house shows. Del Rio was injured on Monday night during the main event of Raw Supershow. While his injury wasn't considered to be serious, it's significant enough to keep him off the road for the next week.

TNA Impact Wrestling News

- Karen Jarrett was "fired" from TNA on this week's Impact Wrestling to write her off television to undergo foot surgery. Karen mentioned the procedure on Twitter:

Jeff Jarrett was "fired" to write him off television while he heads to India to head up TNA's project in the country. Jarrett and others left for India on Thursday. - Jesse Neal addressed he is finished with TNA Impact Wrestling Thursday on Twitter. Below are his Tweets:

Neal has already moved on, working last night's I Believe In Wrestling show in Orlando, Florida. I had been told by one of Jesse's friends that if he could not get on with WWE he would consider retiring from the business, however, he obviously doesn't appear to be going in that direction right now. He officially finished up with TNA Impact Wrestling at last Monday's television tapings. - Chris Masters wrote the following on Twitter about TNA's project in India:

- TNA Impact Wrestling's new promotion in India is called Ring Ka King. Fifty-two weekly episodes will begin in either January or February next year on Colors in India.

- The TNA Against All Odds pay-per-view promotional poster has been released. The poster has a gambling feel and features Jeff Hardy, James Storm, Bobby Roode, Velvet Sky and Gail Kim. You can view the poster below:

- While this is more of a formality than anything else, Jesse Neal is still under contract with TNA Impact Wrestling. I'm told Neal's deal doesn't expired until January 1, 2012. As you saw on last week's television, Neal has already been wrote out of storylines.

- With WWE completely re-evaluating their approach to pay-per-view, I'm told TNA Impact Wrestling officials are now having the same discussions regarding the number of PPV events held annually. A couple of weeks ago Dixie Cartertold The Tennessean the company was still working through some bad contracts that were signed when the company was first getting into business. What she was talking about was TNA's contracts with the pay-per-view providers. Under the current arrangement, TNA is obligated to produce twelve pay-per-views a year and until these contracts expire, they are unable to reduce their pay-per-view model. Current internal discussions have revealed possible plans to go from 12 to 4-6 pay-per-views per year. I'm told if TNA does in fact cut down on the number of pay-per-views held each year once they are legally able to do so, there has been some talk about holding a couple events each year exclusively on One observer feels this would be rather bush league, however, with TNA unable to launch a television network like WWE is doing, this would be a way to use some of what would have been pay-per-views to promote their on-demand subscription service.

- Chavo Guerrero, who is part of TNA'sRing Ka King project in India, wrote the following on Twitter:

- The first champions of Ring Ka King are as follows:

  • Ring Ka King Champion Matt Morgan
  • Tag Team Champions Harry Smith & Chavo Guerrero

TNA has been taping the project over the past week in India. It is set to air on the Colors Network.

- TNA Impact Wrestling has announced three new shows for next year in Kansas:

  • March 2, 2012 from the Bicentennial Center in Salina, Kansas
  • March 3, 2012 from the United Wireless Arena in Dodge City, Kansas
  • March 4, 2012 from The Cotillion in Wichita, Kansas

Did WWE hold John Cena off WWE TLC to see what the buyrate would be without him?

That's an interesting thought and could be a possibility; however, I don't see expectations being that high for the WWE TLC buyrate. WWE is in the process of revamping their pay-per-view model so there isn't a whole lot of attention being placed on pay-per-view buys right now. I can't help but see a legitimate parallel in Cena getting behind Zack Ryder, lobbying for him to get pushed (in real life and in storyline), only to get "thrown off" the card for him to get a shot. Doesn't that somewhat reflect Vince McMahon's ego/attitude? I could just see McMahon saying, "Fine. I'll push him but he's taking your spot." Maybe not, but it's something that shouldn't be overlooked.

I am happy that Daniel Bryan won the title but do you think it was a way for WWE to get him to cash it in before Wrestlemania XXVIII because they're not confident in him headlining the show yet?

Mark Henry's injury played into the booking of the World Heavyweight Championship; however, I am very suspect of WWE's confidence to book Daniel Bryan as World Heavyweight Champion. One of my biggest fears is Bryan dropping the title at tomorrow night's Smackdown taping. WWE has not pushed Bryan like the next "breakout" star so I am weary of this current title reign. I am happy to see Bryan get the opportunity but I haven't seen anything that gives me confidence in WWE's booking of his character.

Are Florida Championship Wrestling wrestlers allowed to work indy shows?

No, workers that are in Florida Championship Wrestling are under WWE developmental contracts which make their services exclusive to WWE's official developmental territory. While a developmental worker isn't making a lot of money, working for FCW is the best opportunity one can get and is better than bouncing around from various indy shots.

Why would WWE make Sheamus vs. Jack Swagger at TLC with no storyline and no build?

WWE added the match as filler. WWE TLC was a B-level show they needed to add some extras to fill out the allocated pay-per-view time. I am not a fan of matches added on the fly during pay-per-views but, I'd rather get a match than the pay-per-view ending early or a pointless talking segment.

Is Big Show ready for a heel turn?

Big Show's backstage interview on last night's Raw Supershow resulted in several readers asking me if I thought he would be turning heel. While I haven't heard, I expect more to come out of Big Show losing the World Heavyweight Championship to Daniel Bryan "cashing in." One of my biggest fears would be Show going over Bryan at tonight's Smackdown taping for the title, exercising his right to a rematch; however, we'll see what happens.

Could Batista be behind the cryptic videos given his recent comments on Twitter?

I expect Batista to return to WWE at some point to formally retire from the ring but I have not heard his name associated with the cryptic videos. Batista doesn't care to speak his mind about the current WWE product; however, I disagree with him on Daniel Bryan and The Miz. Things have changed in WWE - the larger-than-life look that used to be the most important factor in defining a worker's career, is no longer so. In a day of Wellness testing and a much lower tolerance for performance enhancing drugs, workers have been able to get over based on other factors. I am high up on the change and think it is refreshing to see CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and Zack Ryder all holding titles.

Could it be a possibility that WWE is using Skip Sheffield's Tweets as a decoy since there is so much talk the cryptic videos have to do with Chris Jericho?

WWE does cryptic videos to get people talking. The fact the latest series has been widely speculated, dissected and debated proves their strategy works. I've said on several occasions WWE could launch the videos with one plan and change it as time progresses. I'm not ruling anything out but the names I have heard on a consistent basis are Chris Jericho and The Undertaker. However, as of last week, Jericho had not re-signed with WWE.

Is John Cena legitimately upset WWE is selling "Cena Sucks" shirts or is he working everyone on Twitter?

Considering that John Cena will make money off every shirt bearing the Cena name, he's probably just working. Remember workers receive bonuses on merchandise where their name and likeliness is used.

Am I the only person to realize that Wrestlemania XXVIII next year is outside this year? I can understand continuing to wrestle if it is a light rain but what happens if a thunderstorm pops up?

I can assure you that you are not the only one that realizes Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida is an outdoor venue. WWE will prepare for weather just as they did when Wrestlemania 24 was held outdoors in Orlando with a canopy over the ring. Obviously WWE officials hope it doesn't rain but they will make sure the ring surface stays dry. You can view a photo of the Wrestlemania 24 setup at this link.

Will Shane McMahon ever return to the WWE? And if so, will he end up taking over the company?

There's no way I can give you a definitive answer if Shane McMahon will ever return to WWE. Shane left WWE to pursue other interests and Vince was less-than-thrilled about his decision. However, Shane saw the company as being ran by Triple H and Stephanie and decided he wanted a new challenge. As far as I know he's content with his new position as CEO and Chairman of YOU On Demand.

Why has Brodus Clay still not made his debut on WWE Raw Supershow?

To quote Brodus Clay from his Twitter account, he's being held back like a seatbelt. I can almost sense his frustration with each passing episode of WWE television; however, I do not know the mindset of WWE creative. He did have some heat for Tweeting about an angle with John Morrison which ended up being changed to The Miz writing him off television.

How long will Daniel Bryan's reign as World Heavyweight Champion last?

I am hopeful that Daniel Bryan will have a respectable reign as World Heavyweight Champion. However, I would be lying if I told you I'm not holding my breath every time he is booked to wrestle. People can call me a Daniel Bryan fan boy all they want but the fact of the matter is Bryan has paid his dues and is the best worker in WWE. He has earned this opportunity and it's about time the company received a makeover at the top.

Is there an avenue for the fans to suggest things or give legitimate feedback to the writers of the WWE?

In case you haven't noticed, Vince McMahon is in love with Twitter right now. Tweet opinions to @WWE or interact with the company on Facebook. WWE listens to their fan base and run a very social network friendly organization - just look at how the company is developing original WWE Network programming by surveying fans then asking them to name the shows. The company also used the Internet to name B-level pay-per-views. It's very easy to get the attention of WWE officials.

When a worker is suspended under the WWE Wellness Policy, are they paid during their suspension?

When a worker is suspended under the WWE Wellness Policy their downside guarantee is suspended as well. This is how an injured worker can serve a suspension despite the fact they are already off shows.

What are your thoughts on WWE selling "Cena Sucks" t-shirts? Isn't this hypocritical of the anti-bullying policy?

WWE is cashing in on the John Cena heat without turning him heel. Not only are they making a profit from the merchandise but Cena is as well as the shirt bears his name. While I've clearly highlighted the hypocrisy in WWE's Be-A-Star campaign, I don't think making a shirt that says "Cena sucks" is bullying. Look at it this way. If it's bullying to say a worker sucks, is it going to get the point where a heel can't be booed because it's not nice? Cena is doing a great job of working fans on Twitter by calling the merchandise disrespectful while making a profit at the same time.

I'm looking forward to John Cena vs. The Rock at Wrestlemania XXVIII, however, I feel putting the WWE Championship on Cena for the match would destory it because it would make it obvious Cena was going over. What is your opinion?

Anything is possible but I don't see the WWE Championship being involved in John Cena vs. The Rock. The title contenders for Wrestlemania XXVIII will be "selected" from the winner of the Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber. Obviously it would not be possible to follow this scenario if the belt was on John Cena. Furthermore, having the belt on someone other than Cena makes yet another main event.

Do Smackdown superstars get more money than Raw superstars when they appear on both shows?

Every time a WWE superstar works a show they are paid a show bonus of $500 that is added to their pay. The more shows someone works, the more money they make.

Am I the only one that thinks it would be a great idea for WWE to air Florida Championship Wrestling television on the WWE Network so fans can evaluate up and coming talent?

WWE shot a pilot earlier this month for a prospective WWE Network show that was based around Florida Championship Wrestling talent so it certainly appears they plan on highlighting their developmental system on the network. While there are a lot of unanswered questions and concerns about the WWE Network, content is not one of them. WWE has tens of thousands of hours of digitized vintage footage from their tape library and the capability to produce cost-effective new original programming.

When will the latest season of WWE NXT conclude?

Vince McMahon has said the company is sitting on WWE NXT. In other words, they are still taping new material to fulfill international television commitments but are not doing much with the property until a new TV clearance is available in the United States. McMahon insinuated in August they had new television homes for WWE NXT and WWE Superstars, however, I don't know if he was talking about the WWE Network or a third party network.

This summer CM Punk was given more freedom than any in WWE. Now it appears he's being held back. What are your thoughts?

All limitations were taken off CM Punk this summer and what we saw was a character that flourished and was quickly established as one of the most over characters in WWE history. Since then, things have died down but not without Punk being established as a top guy in WWE (in my opinion, he's number three behind John Cena and Randy Orton). I don't feel he's being limited as he still gets away with more than anyone else and has very entertaining segments. He might not be as hot as he was in July; however, he's still riding high as a main event talent and the current WWE Champion.
