The story of Brie Bella continues to get more interesting as Jason reported here on Wrestling News World that Brie told Sky Sports that she misses wrestling and cannot wait to make a comeback. She even teased a dream match with Nikki against Lita and Trish Stratus (Trish is also pregnant and this was likely in jest).
Earlier this year it was learned that Brie planned to retire from wrestling, however, shortly thereafter, WWE asked her to clarify that she was not retiring but simply taking a break. Brie was actually ready to retire because she wanted to focus on starting a family and was concerned about suffering an injury that would impact her long-term health. The uncertain health of her husband from post-concussion syndrome certainly played a factor. WWE was leery about it leaking that they lost both Bryan and Brie over issues related to head injuries, which continues to be a sensitive issue in all of sports.
In fact, it was her that ultimately changed Daniel Bryan’s mind about trying to wrestle again. Bryan was actively trying to get out of his WWE contract earlier this year and had legitimate interest from New Japan Pro Wrestling. However, Brie essentially gave him the ultimatum of “stay retired or else,” because she was worried for his long-term health and wanted to focus on their family planning.
This is when Bryan stopped the informal contact through NJPW (he never talked with them directly because that would have violated his WWE contract) and eventually accepted two new roles in WWE as host of the Cruiserweight Classic and the on-air role as Smackdown General Manager.
It’s unknown if Brie’s recent comments reflect a change of heart in that she really does plan to wrestle again and if those comments will have any impact on the future of Daniel Bryan. With Brie due next spring, her and Bryan still have plenty of time to figure it out.
