As our very own Thomas Fenton reported here on premium over a month ago, the plan all along was to do a women's Royal Rumble and this was a big part of the reason why the six women were recently called up. WWE was orginally going back and forth on if it would be 30 women or just 20 women but it now appears that they will do 20 participants. Champions will not be in the bout as the winner gets a title shot at their respective brand's Women's Champion at Wrestlemania. The RAW roster will consist of Nia Jax, Sasha Banks, Bayley, Paige, Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville, Alicia Fox, Asuka, Mickie James and Dana Brooke. Smackdown's side will include Becky Lynch, Tamina, Lana, Sarah Logan, Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan, Natalya, Naomi and Carmella, which would already bring the total to 19. There is already a locked-down winner of this match. We should also remember one original plan at Wrestlemania was to have the Four Horsewomen of the WWE face the Four Horsewomen of MMA.
As we previously reported, it is still possible that Finn Balor could be added to the triple threat match for the Universal Championship at Royal Rumble; however, the logical booking would be Finn Balor taking on The Miz. It would need to be a quick program as each man's plans for Mania do not involve the other. We could see Finn finally adding Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson during this program to counteract the Miztourage.
Matt Hardy vs. Bray Wyatt is to be a singles match at Royal Rumble.
The idea of debuting Hideo Itami on Raw instead of 205 Live was to make him look like a bigger star before he goes over to the cruiserweight division.
Vince is very focused on finding the right opponent for Braun Strowman at WrestleMania. Vince still wants Braun to be in a featured match even though he will likely not be part of either world title match. John Cena's name has come up for this spot but John is also one of the two names being discussed to potentially win the Royal Rumble as Vince and his staff are deciding between John and one other name at this time.
WWE has considered featuring the UK title on NXT more. The feeling is that instead of introducing another title (while they are not able to utilize the UK talent) would not be a great move and there has been talk of adding another singles title to NXT for a long time. The negative here is that they do not want to take away from the UK workers and the ability they have outside of the US. However it will also give them more exposure by featuring them regularly as well.
