One of the biggest stories of the week is the change to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match at Royal Rumble. Brock Lesnar defending in a triple threat involving not only John Cena but Seth Rollins as well.
As you may remember, this was the original plan for WWE TLC back when Cena vs. Lesnar was considered for Survivor Series. However, now that WWE believes Lesnar is leaving after Wrestlemania 31, they’re forced to consider him losing at Rumble and again at the pay-per-view in March. That way, he “hits his head” on his way out and he’s not champion one day and gone a couple days later.
One idea that has been pitched is Paul Heyman turning on Brock at Royal Rumble and helping Rollins win the title.
However, let’s don’t get ahead of ourselves. WWE has not given up on trying to re-sign Brock Lesnar but it’s believed he will resume his fighting career when his WWE contract expires after Wrestlemania.
So far, Brock’s representatives are still saying they don't want to sign an extension and want to make a decision after Wrestlemania on whether to re-sign or not.
If he does go back to MMA, UFC and Bellator are both expected to make significant offers. Bellator is also after Alberto Del Rio, but right now UFC is not interested in Del Rio because they don't want one of their guys doing MMA and pro wrestling at the same time.
Bellator doesn't have an issue with it, plus they just lost Rampage Jackson, so they really need someone that can grab headlines.
