Jeff Jarrett has quietly been contacting top guys for his new promotion over the course of the last couple months. Within the last week or two, he's been starting to aggressively pursue undercard talent as well. For those that need some catching up, Jarrett is expected to formally announce plans for a new promotion with a group funded by country music singer Toby Keith on Monday.
We're told Jarrett has specifically zeroed in on trying to find out who is and who isn't under contract with Ring of Honor and Dragon Gate USA. For talent under contract with one of those respective promotions, he's interested in when their deals are up. One source stated that pretty much anyone that is a regular for ROH or DGUSA, Jarrett is going after.
Jarrett feels like the X Division was a big part of what put TNA Wrestling on the map in the early days and the importance of the division has really taken a hit since then. This is one of the reasons why he's believed to be interested in recreating it with his new promotion. As one observer put it, "he wants to bring in high flyers."
Most of the names contacted have non-disclosure agreements and are "keeping their mouths shut." Due to the sensitivity of the situation, we aren't naming names.
In addition to the aforementioned names contacted for the Jarrett undercard, we're told the group is also counting on getting Kurt Angle when his agreement is up with TNA later this year. As I explicitly explained in Thursday's Ask WNW, Angle is expected to depart Dixie Carter's promotion.
