AJ Styles vs. John Cena

- Even though it featured the return of John Cena and some significant things from a storyline perspective, this week’s Raw was written under the impression it would be a “lame duck show.” Not just because it was on Memorial Day but because it was up against Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Western Conference Finals and Game 1 of the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoff Finals. Don’t tell Klay Thompson’s dad though because he watched Raw over the game and his son was playing. They tried to coincide the return of Cena with halftime of the game in hopes of getting people to switch over. We won’t have viewership numbers until tomorrow due to the holiday.

- There was a panic shortly before Raw last night when the Ticketmaster listing for the upcoming WWE NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn event scheduled for August 20, 2016 over SummerSlam weekend was taken down. As far as we know the event is still on but something is clearly going on; we just don’t know what. Obviously with next month’s TakeOver show subtitled “The End,” the speculation started to run rampant amongst talent but it looks like a false alarm.

- WWE wanted to go with the John Cena/AJ Styles angle as soon as possible, however, there are many trying to get Vince McMahon to slow it down and build towards a match at SummerSlam. But we all know how they book so a hot shot angle isn’t out of the question. Remember, Vince wanted to build The Club up and it looks like that’s happening but The Draft is going to complicate things as it’s not likely Cena will be on the same show as Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and The Club. We’ve wrote about Reigns and Cena headlining respective shows more than once.

- Kevin Owens as Money in the Bank winner? It has been discussed.

- Vince has all but given up on The Shining Stars gimmick but is said to be a fan of the Breezango team for what they are.

- The Draft will impact the tag division as well as there has been an internal debate about having unique tag team championships for each show. The original plan called for one set of titles but there are going to be enough teams to have two sets of titles.

- Some were surprised The Miz didn’t drop the WWE Intercontinental Championship with him off filming The Marine 5 but this was due to short-term booking as all of his potential opponents are locked into build for Money in the Bank.
