Sinclair Broadcast Group, the parent company of Ring of Honor, began paying more attention to the promotion coming out of Wrestlemania 31 weekend. Once they realized they had been targeted by WWE, they wanted to try and grow the company.
That’s when Sinclair started getting more aggressive with gaining more television exposure, even if in the short term it won’t bring in much money.
As we’ve reported in the past, ROH hasn’t been aggressive with TV opportunities because Sinclair liked having the product exclusive to their affiliates. However, once they were aware of WWE’s intentions to really try to use NXT to compete with ROH, Sinclair realized they couldn’t afford to be passive anymore.
Prior to agreeing to the deal with Destination America, ROH had preliminary unofficial talks with Spike TV.
