Surprise Appearances at Royal Rumble

Most readers are seeking information on surprise Royal Rumble entrants. 17 entrants are official on the list here on dot com. Justin Gabriel is out after quitting WWE on Friday and Los Matadores are not listed after previously being included.

The biggest name to mention they were in Philadelphia (the Rumble host city) over the weekend is The Rock. The last time Rock teased being in a WWE host city he ended up making a surprise appearance on Raw. As I noted earlier on Sunday, I cannot confirm anything but this certainly creates a buzz.

Further, a match Vince McMahon has wanted to do at Wrestlemania for quite some time is The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar. However, that talk had cooled recently as Rock was listed as “doubtful” for Wrestlemania 31 this year. Obviously money talks, so we’ll see if anything comes of it.

When looking at surprise entrants in the Royal Rumble match, we have to mention injured workers that have the possibility of returning. Once again, I cannot confirm any of these names but such names would include Randy Orton, Bo Dallas, Sheamus, Rey Mysterio, Zack Ryder and Mark Henry.

We’ll also mention Heath Slater has been off the road dealing with his legal issues and David Otunga has worked live events lately.

It is expected that at least one WWE NXT talent will enter the 30-man Rumble match with possibilities including Bull Dempsey, Finn Balor, Adrian Neville, Sami Zayn, Hideo Itami, Kalisto, Enzo Amore or Tyler Breeze.

Rob Van Dam and Chris Jericho are possibilities to be included in the Rumble match. Speaking of Jericho, he was on the weekend loop in matches against Cesaro. I’m told Jericho requested to work Cesaro. That’s part of Jericho agreeing to come back and work for WWE, as he pitches workers he would like to work with and feels he can help.

Someone asked me if Diamond Dallas Page was a possibility as a surprise Rumble entrant. DDP is scheduled to host a Royal Rumble Watch Party at the slamdance premiere of “The Resurrection of Jake the Snake Roberts” in Park City, Utah on Sunday. DDP and his crew were in Utah on Saturday so I would consider him “doubtful” for the pay-per-view.

There has been a lot of speculation about Bully Ray and Devon showing up at Royal Rumble on Sunday. There isn’t much to write here, other than I cannot confirm WWE deals at press time. Sources have indicated for years there are underlying issues between Triple H and Bubba Ray that could keep the latter from returning. Obviously if those issues were worked out, anything is possible.

Other Backstage Notes

I’m told Justin Gabriel was frustrated about his enhancement role in WWE but it’s unknown why he quit the company at press time. As I reported here at Wrestling News World, Gabriel gave his notice on Friday.

Dolph Ziggler has been working with a bad knee for some time now and while he’ll work Sunday night, it’s something worth monitoring.
