As we noted a number of times, WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar doesn’t want to sign a contract extension before Wrestlemania 31. He wants to let his contract expire and explore his options in “free agency.”
Some in WWE believe he isn’t company back, while Vince McMahon has been confident that he’ll re-sign. We’re told the company had given the green light for some new t-shirt designs featuring Lesnar’s likeness but they were recently canceled. It’s hard to tell what that means because merchandise for Lesnar is a different situation.
Brock earns a higher royalty rate than most of the guys on the roster, so WWE actually makes more money on non-Lesnar merchandise. Again, Brock is a different situation and is the only performer allowed to have sponsors on his ring gear.
Even so, we’re told Brock isn’t happy with how he’s been merchandised in WWE. While he’s got a massive downside guarantee, he’s not making what he thought he was on merchandise when he re-signed a couple of years ago.
With UFC’s sponsor restrictions, this isn’t something they would necessarily have an advantage on either in terms of Brock choosing to return to MMA over staying with WWE. Bellator MMA can truly not be ruled out as a contender either, as they are definitely interested and willing to make a competitive offer.
We received this information before WWE chose not to use Brock at this week's Monday Night Raw.
There is more to the story but it’s still developing. There was significant talk about comments Frank Mir made on Sunday in regards to Lesnar after beating Antônio Silva in Porto Alegre, Brazil. That story is still online at this link.
