Triple H & Alberto Del Rio

On Wednesday our WNW Premium cover story broke down Alberto Del Rio’s contract to return to WWE. Another element to that is how it hurts Rey Mysterio’s leverage to return to his former employer.

Mysterio is committed to Lucha Underground for one season, but the hope was that he’d be back to WWE after that. It may still happen at some point, but WWE isn't going to break the bank for him now. One guy was going to cash in on WWE's urgent need for a Latin superstar and Del Rio is the one that cashed in. WWE also strongly preferred Del Rio of the two because even though Del Rio is only two years younger [than Mysterio], he doesn't have the injury history and is obviously also the size WWE prefers.

In other news, we reported Tuesday here on Wrestling News World Premium a double turn for Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns was pitched for their main event match at Survivor Series but Vince McMahon was having none of it. Now, those are plans are 100% gone as Vince scrambles to come up with a tournament to crown a new champion. In the hours after Rollins’s injury, WWE had feared a torn right MCL but the injury was even worse than that with the ACL also being torn as well as the medial meniscus. I would imagine there is currently a big panic in WWE with viewership sinking and yet another top star out for an extended period of time.
