Although WWE's pursuit of some Ring of Honor talent has been slightly delayed by ROH's threats of suing for contract tampering, WWE's legal department has given the green light to begin pursuing ROH talent again, with the idea of having some signings done by SummerSlam. First on the list obviously is Adam Cole, which ROH has accepted they'll be unable to retain. ROH was simply hoping to buy themselves some time so they could stock up on talent before losing several more guys.
This led to the aggressive pursuit of getting Cody Rhodes locked up under contract, but ROH is also focused on filling in the undercard with guys they hope can be future stars. The company is very high on former NXT competitor Josh Woods, who they had win their Top Prospect tournament this year. Even though in storyline the winner of the tournament earns an ROH contract, almost four months later, Josh Woods still hasn't signed. He's being pushed right out the gate and was given a win at the TV tapings over the weekend. ROH officials are hoping to have pen put to paper any day now as the final deal points were agreed to over the weekend.
IMPACT Wrestling reached out to Woods when they learned he still wasn't under contract, despite "winning" the contract in January, but all signs point to him signing this week and ROH slowly pushing him up the card throughout the rest of 2017.
