Chicago Street Fight for the WWE Championship
- CM Punk © vs. Chris Jericho

We get a video package highlighting the events between these two men that have led to this match.

The entrances:

Chris Jericho is the first man to make his way out to the ring, and it's pretty obvious that he's walking into enemy territory from the reaction he gets from the crowd. The champion is the next man out to the ring, and Punk gets a great reaction from his hometown crowd. Both men are dressed in street clothes, with Punk sporting a 'Drug Free' t-shirt. Punk takes time to go over and hug his sister before the match before heading into the ring.

It's kind of weird that we get formal ring introductions for this match, since this is a street fight, and an angle that's featured a lot of highly charged emotions.

The start:

The bell rings and Punk and Jericho stare at each other across the ring before charging in and hitting each other with repeated rights. Punk takes Jericho into the corner and beats on him with clubbing blows and kicks, sending him crashing to the outside.

Mid-match notes:

Punk dropkicks Jericho into the timekeeper's area before tossing a couple of chairs into the ring. Punk tosses Jericho into the ring and grabs a kendo stick from under the ring. Punk heads in and blasts Jericho with a kendo stick shot to the back before driving it into Jericho's stomach.

Punk chases Jericho around the ring and back into the ring, and Punk is able to connect with a flying clothesline. Punk hits another kendo stick shot before wedging a chair in between the middle and top rope in the corner. Jericho uses the ref to beg off, and poked Punk in the eye before hitting a nice dropkick.

Punk rolls to the apron, and Jericho hits him with a kendo stick shot to the gut. Jericho hits a springboard dropkick, sending Punk crashing out to the floor. Jericho follows to the outside, hitting Punk with a big forearm. Punk slams Jericho's head into the ring apron before whipping him hard into the timekeeper's area. Jericho hits Punk with a series of rights, and Punk responds by slamming Jericho into the announcer's table. Jericho comes back with a head butt before sending Punk back into the ring.

Jericho rips off one of the turnbuckle covers before taunting Punk by slapping at him. Punk fights back, hitting Jericho with a couple of chops, but missing a running knee in the corner. Punk falls to the outside and Jericho follows, hitting a kick to the gut. Jericho rips the padding off the barricade, and slams his head into the barricade right in front of his sister. Jericho gets in Punk's sister's face, and she responds by slapping him. Jericho teases going after her, but Punk leaps on Jericho and hits him with right after right. Punk dismantles the announce table and slams Jericho down on the 'hood' part that wrestlers usually just toss aside. Punk teases a pile driver, but Jericho counters with a back drop on the floor.

Jericho grabs a monitor and drives it into Punk's spine before taking part of the hood and slamming it across Punk's back. Punk heads into the ring and Jericho follows, pinning him for two. Jericho locks in a rear chin lock and cranks back. Punk is able to fight up to his feet but he's taken down with a side suplex. Punk rolls to the apron and catches Jericho by snapping his neck across the top rope. Punk heads back into the ring, but he stumbles, and Jericho blasts him with repeated kendo stick shots.

ericho taunts Punk, but finds himself in a small package for two. Jericho connects with an enzugiri and pins Punk for two. Jericho heads to the outside and goes under the ring, grabbing a can of beer. Jericho opens the beer and pours it over Punk. Jericho kicks Punk in the ribs before pounding the side of his head. Jericho heads back to the outside and grabs another beer. Jericho takes a swig of beer, and Punk catches him with a low blow. Punk picks up the kendo stick and uses it to hit Kericho a couple of times before hitting a bit kendo stick assisted kick. Punk hits a neckbreaker, then charges into the corner with a high knee and follows with a bull dog.

Punk uses the kendo stick to hit Jericho low before shouldering Jericho. Jericho fights out and goes for the walls. Punk fights out of the walls and hits a powerslam, putting Jericho down for a two count. Punk slowly climbs up to the top rope. Jericho hits the ropes and Punk crotches himself on the top.

Jericho heads up after Punk and tries for a superplex, but Punk fights it off. Punk sends Jericho crashing down to the mat. Punk stands on the top rope and hits the flying elbow drop. Punk goes for the pin but he's only able to get a two count.

Punk pulls Jericho to his feet and shoulders him. Jericho fights out, and hits a bull dog. Jericho tries for the lionsault, but Punk stops him, and puts him on his shoulders. Punk tries for the G2S, but Jericho lands on his feet and slams Punk into the chair set up in the corner earlier. Jericho goes for the pin, but he's only able to get two.

Both men are slow to get to their feet. Jericho hits a code breaker out of nowhere. Jericho grabs Punk's legs and puts him into the Walls of Jericho. Punk struggles, teasing tapping out. Punk makes it to the ropes, but it doesn't force a break. Punk continues to crawl, grabbing a fire extinguisher from under the ring. Jericho pulls Punk to the middle of the ring, but Punk sprays Jericho in the face when he looks back.

Punk uses the extinguisher to hit Jericho in the gut, sending him to the outside. Punk follows and hits Jericho with another shot to the gut, then a shot to the back of the head lays Jericho out on the Spanish announce table. Punk heads up to the top rope, stumbling just a bit. Punk leaps from the top and hits an elbow drop to the outside, sending Jericho crashing through the table.

Punk pulls Jericho back into the ring. Punk rolls in after and goes for the pin, but Jericho is still able to kick out at two. Punk goes right into the anaconda vice. Jericho grabs the kendo stick, using it to bash Punk's skull and force him to break the hold. Punk grabs a chair and drives it into Jericho's gut, but Jericho hits a code breaker, using the chair to drive into Punk's skull. Jericho pins Punk, but Punk still kicks out at two.

The finish:

Jericho kicks at Punk and tells him to stay down. Jericho pulls Punk up to his feet and shoulders him. Jericho tries for a G2S, but Punk counters, grabbing Jericho's leg and slingshotting him into the exposed turnbuckle. Punk hits the G2S and pins Jericho for the three count.

Hope Lesnar doesn't lose any momentum after this lost

  • Abe

the two jobbers are Heath Hatton and Ace Hawkins

  • Ian P.

How does a guy like Ziggler lose after doing 2 matches during several PPVs last year and to a gimmick like Clay? Has his stock dropped?

    • hurrigame

I'd imagine it has. Guess he's now relegated to trying to coax a match for Zack Ryder's Internet Championship. Serves him right for ripping off Billy Gunn & Mr. Perfect (poorly).

      • Ian P.

I don't know if you can blame his gimmick totally on him. Creative and VKM has allowed him to do it. Humph… It's just a real head scratcher.

        • Chris

Bring in ric flair! He would shape ziggler into the next nature boy! Whooooooo

  • Jonjayha

Was there tonight. Cena is beyond a class act.

  • jonjayharris

Was there tonight. Cena is a class act!!!! J

  • Jashaun

He won’t because he will go on Monday night raw and complain that the wwe officials cheated him.

  • Ralphus

Subpar card! Best match was Punk/Jericho but the whole card was predictable. And Lesnar appeared out of shape.

  • Jashaun

That’s what I think Is gonna happen

  • Mr.Love

Really lesnar loses in his debut match? Wow….

    • anandvkumar

What else do you expect? Did you really think that vince would let Monday Night RAW to be renamed Monday Night RAW starrring Brock Lesnar?

That too on someone who is back on a temporary basis 🙂 and doesnt intend on staying here on the long run.

      • Abe

Well he did just let him lose to the crock

        • Mr.Love

And you have Brock lose all momentum from debuting back?

  • H.M.

What ever happened to the 'take him out and put him on the shelf to build your momentum' thing?

  • Chris

I was at the show and did not realize that aired.

  • LeBron James

You guys are hoping Brock doesn't lose momentum? I'm shocked he doesn't get extreme heat for what he did to Cena, he worked Cena WAY to stiff, He MMA elbowed Cena extremely hard 3 times causing the cut on Cena's head. Then when he was doing submissions on Cena you could see him applying actual pressure. I felt real bad for Cena. Nothing he could do but be a professional and take the beating. Brock got away with murder tonight, that match was tough to watch. Props to Cena, he has a new fan in me. I respect the hell out of him now. He is completely over in my book.

    • Abe

wrestling is a contact sport, people get hit, stop complaining

      • Abe

lol @ these losers down voting my comment, go back to my little pony if you don't wanna watch a physical sport

      • Rob uk

This completely wrong. Yes it’s a contact sport but wrestlers are trained to protect one another in the ring, not injury them. Problem is Lesner had this issue first time round.

        • Abe

no, it is 100% right, protecting one another and what happened last night is on two completely different plains

          • Rob UK

            Sorry my friend… 100% wrong.

    • Jeremy

@LeBronJames – I completely agree with you. I watched the match and those elbows given to Cena left me in shock, and to see the blood dripping onto the mat just made things worse. I was wondering if Brock was really trying to hurt Cena and I had no idea if that was supposed to happen. Honestly I was scared that it was not supposed to start the way it did but in the end it was a great match and you have to respect Cena to the fullest for acting extremely professional about the whole thing.

  • Ricky Valdez

This is the reason I respect John cena, because the man has gone through the wars versus the best and win or loose has shined, people who boo cena are not real fans, if you have followed his career you know cena is the real deal.

    • JMM

People have the right to boo whoever they want. I've watched John Cena put on some good matches. I've also watched him stink up arenas. After growing up watching HBK, Bret Hart, Steve Austin and then sticking with the WWE when they're putting world title's on the likes of The Great Khali and The Big Show I'm pretty sure I'm a real fan and if I choose to dislike John Cena being the constant focus of the WWE for the past 7 yearsdespite being very average I'm pretty sure I have that right.

  • And its pathetic that Lesnar lost in his (sort of) debut match when even Khali didn't….

  • Whammaster

the world title matches and cean vs. lesner were amazing to watch. People always want certian things to happen, but as a fan watching the ppv. IT WAS AMAZING. Yet another ppv from Chicago that was fun to watch =D

  • John Strunbull

Sheamus got booed his way out? Wow. YES! YES! YES!

  • Why does cena have to go on a vacation on a winning note? Can't believe the WWE did this. Most wrestlers usually take time off on a losing note, WWE builds some story around the injury, and then come back to take revenge. cena had no business winning this match – the WWE just didn't want him to lose 2 PPV matches in a row. They should have definitely made Lesnar win this one so that he could be built up like an unstoppable beast as he will be the main man on the show (apart from Punk) while cena is off and then cena could've returned later to take revenge and win. Terrible, stupid decision.

  • channesson

I wonder how scared McMahon got when lesner went over the top rope the way he did.. I thought Cena and lesner did a awesome job.. With Cena leaving who is lesner going to face? Who is next for punk? What about Bryan and Sheamus?

  • Chowder

Don’t worry, guys! Cena might be going away, but it’s just a ploy to make Super Cena a permanent worker! I can see through your disguise!

  • Ellen Brennan

John Cena is the ultimate professional. Every "big business" in the world wishes they had an employee that could/would represent them the way Cena does the WWE. He deserves the win and has earned this "vacation".

  • AntGilroy

The bump that leaner took over the rope was insane! One tough SOB

  • DNP

Will never like cena he still sucks in my opinion and I’m glad he took a Beating of a life time hope Brock comes back and gives him more

    • patrick

yea i think little brocky has found himself a home now, WWE will put up with his unprofessional style of wrestling because of his "look", and since he cant survive in MMA and no steroids so TNA wont take him so…….i guess little "big bad brock lesnar" has a home now, i jus wished the worthless bastard would take his wimpy voice and go to smackdown where i wouldnt have to watch him on monday nights

  • Levi Aldebol

My question is who did Dolph Ziggler piss off to be jobbing to clowns like Brodus Clay? And has The Miz fallen so far into oblivion that his match with Santino was relegated to PRE SHOW!?!?

    • David king

      Somebody call my momma!!!!

  • Is cena going to b on RAW tonite?

  • Jg

People r crazy for getting mad at cena winning.. He just jobbed at wm to the crock!!

  • SEAN

WOW! Whomever is/was responsible for giving us all those/these results, THANK YOU! That must have been a lot of work.
    Much appriciated!!

  • ashi

cena is a person who loves wwe wins or loose he will be who he is for ever and ever……. he always deserves the winning spot ….. he is the only guy who plays fair ………i do respect … JOHN CENA for what he is…..

    ………………………………………………………………………………………CENA >>>ROCKS……. !!!!!!
