Welcome all to Wrestling News Worlds live coverage of Smackdown Live. This week the show imenates from The Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA. I'm Stephen and I'll be your host tonight for the first blue show after the Royal Rumble. What next for A.J. Styles with the controversial finish of the WWE Title match? Will Ronda Rousey signing have impact on Smackdown Liv e? Who are the next challengers for the Usos? Finally will we continue to see tension with Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan? Let's find out together and please feel free to comment below or message me on Twitter @awesomephinatic.
The show opens up with the Royal Rumble winner Shinsuke Nakamura.
The crowd is absolutely electric for Nakamura's entrance. Corey Graves and Tom Phillips puts over the accomplishment Nakamura had at the Royal Rumble by entering at number fourteen. It appears that they have add the word "Rockstar" to Nakamura's entrance. The crowd chants "Nakamura" before he can begin his promo. Nakamura lists all of the superstars that caught a "knee to the face" during the Rumble. He concludes by saying A.J. Styles will get a knee to the face and he will become WWE champion.
Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn interrupt Nakamura by saying they were screwed out of the title. Owens and Zayn throw to still photos from Royal Rumble showing that the finish shouldn't be valid. Owens and Zayn claim that they are entitled to another match, and that Nakamura would be facing them at Wrestlemania. Nakamura calls Owens and Zayn losers and Styles a winner. Styles makes his way out to the ring and says the Nakamura match will happen at Wrestlemania. Styles challenges Owens and Zayn to a tag match with his partner being Nakamura. Owens and Zayn refuse to accept the match and get punched by both Nakamura and Styles.
(Nice opening segment with Nakamura not being asked to say much on the mic. I thought for sure we would see the tag match as the main event. We still may see it after Shane McMahon catches word of the situation.)
United States Number One Contender Fatal Fourway- Zack Ryder vs. Rusev vs. Kofi vs. Jinder Mahal:
We come back from commercial with Mahal, Rusev and Ryder being in the ring. Kofi Kingston is mid entrance and they cut backstage to Daniel Bryan. Bryan makes a tag team main event with Owens and Zayn taking on Styles and Nakamura. Bryan announces he's planned Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn in a number one contender match next week. We go back to action in the ring and it's announced Roode is on commentary. Rusev and Mahal attempt a double team move however Kofi counters with a dropkick. Kofi attempts to pin Ryder but Mahal breaks up the pinfall. Ryder clears Mahal from the ring with a clothesline and then a dropkick through the ropes. Kofi then takes out both Ryder and Mahal with a trust fall. Rusev teases a dive to the outside until a Singh interferes. The referee throws out everyone from ringside.
We come back to action outside with Mahal throwing Kofi into the stairs. Mahal then turns his attention to Rusev who is thrown into the ringpost. Ryder is then rolled into the ring with a pin attempt by Mahal. Rusev now enters the ring and starts throwing punches at Mahal and then a couple big kicks. Mahal takes a powder and Ryder drops Rusev with a missile dropkick. Just after Ryder connects with a Broski Boot, Mahal kicks Ryder in the head and attempts a pin. Ryder kicks out at two and so does Rusev after Mahal tries to pin him. Kofi lays everyone out and gets a near fall with a S.O.S on Ryder. Mahal rolls up Rusev for a two count during a double accolade attempt. Ryder connects on Mahal with a rough Ryder, Rusev then kicks Ryder and Rusev makes Kofi tap. After the match Rusev and Roode stare each other down. The match is announced for next week's Smackdown Live.
(This was a very good match with an appropriate outcome. Rusev is certainly hot right now and will have a good match with Roode. It was nice to see Ryder and Kofi get some singles spotlight and Mahal still getting opportunities.)
The Usos cut a backstage promo and are up next:
We come back from commercial with a Fashion Files episode. They are asked some silly Twitter questions. Gable and Benjamin invade The Fashion Files and challenge Breezango to a match. Usos now come to the ring and start a promo about how great Philadelphia is. Usos say they swept Benjamin and Gable at Royal Rumble. Then they begin to run down the entire division and how they have locked them all down. They put over their stronger together because they are brothers. As they begin to leave the ring the Bludgeon Brothers music hits. They pass each other as Rowan and Harper enter the ring.
(Another entertaining promo from the Usos. Love the promo style they have adopted and the Bludgeon Brothers are the right challengers. I can't wait to see these two teams face off.)
Bludgeon Brothers vs. Local Talent:
Rowan and Harper make quick work of these two. Harper destroys one of them with a tremendous big boot. Rowan hits a big splash in the corner and then they hit their finisher.
(Yet another squash for the Bludgeon Brothers. I can't help but think they are the ones to dethrone the Usos.)
Daniel Bryan formerly announces the top 10 list for Smackdown Live.
Shane McMahon is backstage and has a discussion with Tye Dillinger. They are interrupted by Corbin who questions Shane' s authority. Shane makes a match between Dillinger and Corbin.
Charlotte makes her way to the ring:
Renee Young is out to interview Charlotte. She asks Charlotte about having a front row seat to the Rumble. Charlotte says she wanted to be in the Rumble match. Charlotte mentions Ronda Rousey's debut and how it broke the internet. Charlotte asks who will be the challenger for her title at Wrestlemania. The Riott Squad make their way to the ring and cut a promo on Charlotte. Riott calls Charlotte a cheap imitation of her father. The Riott Squad attack Charlotte however Charlotte clears the ring of all three. Riott Squad attack again and this time get the best of Charlotte. Riott drops Charlotte with her finisher and stands tall to close the segment. After the beatdown Carmella attempts a cash-in. However it's foiled when she accidentl drop kicks the referee.
(I thought Charlotte cut a very good promo. The Riott Squad however fell a bit flat. I thought Riott's promo wasn't great. Fantastic spot for Carmella to remind us that she has the briefcase. If it's me she holds it until Wrestlemania.)
Nakamura and Styles have a promo backstage. Nakamura tells Styles he is going to beat him at Wrestlemania. Nakamura tells Styles to listen to him in the ring.
Baron Corbin vs. Tye Dillinger:
We come back from commercial with Renee Young interviewing Carmella. Carmella says she's the most dangerous woman in the WWE because of her briefcase. Corbin now makes his entrance and catches an early sidekick from Dillinger. These two brawl outside early with Dillinger having the upperhand. Dillinger stars with punches in the corner before Corbin throws him down. Corbin gets good heat during some stiff punches on the mat. We return from commercial with Corbin having Dillinger grounded. We get some back and forth until Corbin misses Dillinger and rams himself into the turnbuckle post. Dillinger takes advantage with some strikes and attempts a tiebreaker. Corbin however reverses the finisher and hits a chokeslam neckbreaker and then the end of days for the win.
Winner: Baron Corbin
(Fun match that got both men on the show. At this point Corbin needs to take another step as he seems to have stalled a bit. I'm a fan of his but he's currently missing something.)
Rusev cuts a promo about having a title match next week. Roode then has his response and says his calendar is filling up. He then writes Glorious on a calendar. Zayn and Owens are shown backstage and they have some tension. Owens gets the last word telling Zayn not to fail tonight.
Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable vs. Breezango:
Match starts with both teams in the ring and Benjamin attacking Breeze on the apron. Benjamin quickly grounds Fandango and tags in Gable. Fandango reverses things and hits a bulldog on Gable for a two count. Gable regains control for a near fall and grounds Fandango again. Fandango makes the hot tag to Breeze and Gable makes a blind tag. Gable and Benjamin hit their finisher to win.
(A quick match to regain momentum for the tag team. I think Gable and Benjamin have some more life together than I originally thought.)
Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn vs. A.J. Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura:
This match starts immediately after commercial break with no entrances. Styles and Owens start the match. Both men tag out quickly and now we have Nakamura and Zayn. Owens screams at Nakamura while he does his "Come on" taunt. Nakamura does a quick "good vibrations" to Zayn before tagging out. Owens grounds Nakamura and Zayn gets a cheap shot in. Owens and Zayn continue quick tags and keeping Nakamura in the corner. Zayn gets knocked down on the outside and Owens is upset. We start seeing real tension between Zayn and Owens. Zayn walks out on Owens and now Owens is left to fend for himself.
Back from commercial and Owens has Styles in a headlock. Zayn is at the top of the ramp watching on. Zayn returns to the ring to breakup a pin attempt on Owens. Zayn and Owens continue to argue during the match. They begin smacking each other to tag each other in. Owens catches Styles Phenomenal forearm attempt and reverses into a gutbuster. Styles makes the hot tag to Nakamura who hits some nice kicks. Nakamura hits Owens with the Kinshasa for the win.
Winner: A.J. Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura
(Great teasing of tension with Zayn and Owens. It appears as if we will finally get these two on the biggest of stages. Nakamura and Styles worked well together and I'm looking forward to the Babyface vs. Babyface dynamic.)
Renee Young is with a Sami Zayn and cuts a promo and says he will be champion. Styles and Nakamura pose for the crowd as the show ends.
