For those of you in the know, wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer popularized the star rating system (1 - 5) for wrestling matches and they can be very subjective of course but Meltzer usually echoes the consensus on a match even if he often gets criticized for being pretty positively biased towards New Japan and tends to not give out perfect ratings for American wrestling matches too often. The system itself has often been criticized as well.
The most recent round of critcism comes from Bully Ray (or Bubba Ray for his WWE fans). In a tweet sent out earlier today, Bubba noted that matches should only be rated on how much money they made and it doesn't matter what star rating they receive.
While I agree that plenty of 'five star matches' didn't draw flies, I don't like the idea of people not being able to rate or criticize matches just because they're a 'mark' or a 'smark.' People are allowed to rate movies and review/criticize them when they are not necessarily in that business so as long as we remember that it's always just an opinion, I don't think it's that much of a big deal.
