CM Punk was on Fox Sports Live on Wednesday night to discuss his transition to the UFC. Video of the interview is now online at this link but we compiled some notes below:
When asked about Chael Sonnen saying that he knows Punk’s first opponent, Punk said there is no update and if they do know about it, they haven’t told him. He said he always likes a good surprise.
Punk was asked how working for Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta compares to working for Vince McMahon. He said so far, he’s being treated how he feels he should be treated. Punk knows he’s being afforded things other people probably wouldn’t because of his “name value” or whatever. Vince has his vision and he’s been doing it for so long, he’s stubborn and Dana is stubborn so they’re similar but different.
When asked if he wanted to do MMA sooner, Punk said he tries not to have any regrets. He said if MMA was as big as it is today, several wrestlers would have tried it, specifically mentioning Kurt Angle. Part of him wishes he would have tried it sooner but Punk said he feels fine now.
Dan Henderson is Punk’s favorite all-time MMA fighter.
Punk said he is his favorite current fighter but then backed off and said Daniel Cormier, Connor McGregor and everyone who is entertaining.
Punk offered analysis for UFC 182: Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier on January 3, 2015 and said he hoped to be there in Las Vegas.
Punk was asked to break down UFC on Fox: dos Santos vs. Miocic and said he couldn’t wait to see the people “pissed off” on Twitter the white belt is breaking down fights. Punk said maybe he’s a black belt at breaking it down.
When given the chance to address fans, Punk said if you like fighting and you want to support me, that’s great. If you hate me, it’s probably even better because you get to see people punch me. Punk said he’s going to show the world what he’s made of and in a lot of ways he's already won because he’s putting himself out there.
