The Rock and John Cena

John Cena will return to WWE tomorrow at the company’s Smackdown live event from Madison Square Garden in New York City.

He’s scheduled to challenge AJ Styles along with Dean Ambrose in a triple threat match for the WWE Championship. The lineup for the show is available at this link.

Cena will make his return to TV on this week’s Wild Card Finals episode of Smackdown Live, which is something WWE is heavily promoting.

Cena has been away from WWE for two months filming the second season of his FOX reality competition American Grit and recently hosted Saturday Night Live. He’s expected to pickup on a program with Styles for the WWE Championship but WWE is questioning whether he’ll do that or begin a new program. It’s always possible they have something else in mind for Cena’s return, as creative plans are always changing and we haven't heard an update over the holiday weekend.

John is now considered more of a part-time WWE Superstar as he continues to pursue opportunities outside of WWE as well as contributing as much as he can. The days of him working the full 300-day a year schedule for WWE are likely over.
