WWE Champion AJ Styles is scheduled to get a couple more weeks off to allow his injured left ankle a chance to heel.
Styles suffered the injury in the WWE TLC match at the pay-per-view against Dean Ambrose a couple weeks ago. It was originally not believed to be that bad, as WWE had plans for Styles to defend the title against James Ellsworth that week on Smackdown. They pulled him from a live event the night after the pay-per-view and then pushed the Ellsworth match back to this week and gave him the weekend off. Styles still wasn’t ready to go, so the match didn’t happen and Styles didn’t work. Instead, Dolph Ziggler beat The Miz, Luke Harper and Dean Ambrose in a Fatal Four-Way Elimination Match to win the No. 1 contendership for the WWE Championship on this week's Smackdown.
Ziggler is now scheduled to face Styles on the Dec. 27, 2016 episode of Smackdown. Styles is scheduled to return to the ring the night before at a WWE Smackdown live event from Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Styles claimed on this week’s episode of Talking Smack that he was good to go, however, he also felt he’d be good to go after he suffered the injury against Ambrose at TLC.
