From the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey
Report by Brooks Oglesby of WrestlingNewsWorld.com

Welcome to the 2016 Extreme Rules Kickoff!

Renee Young welcomes us to the show alongside Corey Graves, Booker T, and Jerry Lawler. Corey's looking forward to the Women's Championship Match tonight so Charlotte can silence her critics. Lawler is looking forward to seeing Chris Jericho get retribution on Dean Ambrose. Booker is looking forward to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match. He can feel it in his bones: history will be made tonight.

Renee sends it to Tom Phillips in the Social Media Lounge. He invites us to use #ExtremeRules to join the conversation. Later tonight, he will have a live Q&A with Rusev and Lana. Use #AskRusev to send in questions.

Back at the panel, Renee brings up the Asylum Match between Chris Jericho and Dean Ambrose. We get a shot of the cage and weapons suspended over the ring. Renee asks who the true lunatic is in this match. Jerry says it's Ambrose, because he's dedicating his match to a plant. Booker says he goes back 20 years with Jericho. Jericho's long career has been very difficult mentally, and it's prepared him for this. Jerry says Ambrose will be too stupid to use any of the weapons, because he has the IQ of a plant. Corey picks Ambrose to win. Jerry picks Jericho, as does Booker.

The conversation moves to the Submission Match for the Women's Championship between Charlotte and Natalya. Paige and Becky Lynch join the panel. Renee brings up the controversial finish to Payback. Jerry says there was nothing controversial at all: Charlotte won. Becky asks if he ever heard her submit. Jerry says he didn't have to. Becky says Ric Flair reeled in that crooked ref. Paige says she hasn't been the nicest person either, but now Charlotte doesn't have any friends at the top. Becky says Charlotte has competed at 11 straight PPVs, and she did that through her talent and her resources, and her top resource is banned from ringside tonight. Booker says Natalya has the pedigree to win tonight, but Charlotte is on another level, and tonight will be an ultimate battle. Paige picks Charlotte to win. Jerry says he's been in the Figure Four and the Sharpshooter, and the Figure Four hurts worse. Becky picks Natalya to win. Booker says this might be Natalya's last shot, and that will motivate her to win tonight.

The Dudley Boyz make their way to the ring as Mauro Ranallo and Byron Saxton welcome us to ringside. D-Von asks what Extreme Rules would be without The Dudley Boyz. Bubba Ray says they've been in more Extreme Rules matches than the entire roster combined. Bubba Ray says the audience remembers a company named ECW, starting some chants from the crowd. D-Von says you can watch ECW on WWE Network. Bubba Ray says it's time for the crowd to stop acting like sheep. The Dudley Boyz were responsible for killing off ECW. When they left, ECW went straight into the toilet, just like the careers of these "new era" Superstars. D-Von says they're not on Extreme Rules because they're above extreme. Bubba Ray says he's been waiting to say something to D-Von since they got here. D-Von shouts "WHAT?" and Bubba sks, "Can we please get out of stinkin' New Jersey?" Big Cass interrupts and says he knows why he wouldn't ask D-Von to get the table: because he ate the table and everything on it. Cass says the stars of the new era are going to prove that they do it better than they did in bingo halls. Cass gets into the ring and they rush him. The Dudleyz beat him down as Enzo chants start. Bubba charges at Cass and Cass sidesteps, sending Bubba into D-Von. Cass lands an East River Crossing on D-Von and grabs a mic. He says there's only one word to describe them, and he's gonna spell it out for 'em: S-A-W-F-T!

The conversation shifts to the Fatal 4-Way for the Intercontinental Championship. Renee sends it backstage to JoJo, who welcomes The Miz and Maryse. The Miz interrupts and says he's taken on plenty of challenging roles in his career, but none of them are as challenging as his role tonight. He's prepared a monologue to express how he feels. Maryse asks for dramatic music. Miz says "Great moments are born from great opportunity, and that is what I have tonight. That is what I've earned tonight. One match. If I fought Cesaro and Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens 10 times, I might lose 9 times. But not tonight. He was born to be a WWE Superstars. This is my time." He's sick of hearing how great the new era is. This is his time. He walks away as Maryse applauds. Miz walks back onscreen and says he'd like to do another take. Maryse shouts "Take 2" and Miz starts the monologue again.

Back at the panel, Renee asks if we'll see a new Intercontinental Champion tonight. Jerry says his opponents are great, but Miz is a star. Booker is laughing after Miz's segment, saying it reminded him of Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. Booker picks Cesaro to win, because Cesaro reminds him of himself. Jerry picks Miz to retain. Corey picks Kevin Owens to win.

Meanwhile, Rusev and Lana join Tom Phillips in the Social Media Lounge. Rusev says Tom might as well call him the champion already. His mom has already called to congratulate him. Lana asks why she isn't included in the hashtag. The first question asks how Rusev is going to handle Kalisto's speed. Rusev asks who cares about speed when you have his size. The second question asks what Matchka means. Lana asks if any of these fans have ever used the Internet. The final question asks what Rusev's favorite thing about America is. Rusev says the chance to make money. Lana says it's the land of opportunity, and they're becoming #1 at everything.

Back at the panel, the conversation moves to the Extreme Rules Match between Roman Reigns & AJ Styles for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Booker says this will be his Shucky Ducky Quack Quack moment of the night. This could be the moment for AJ Styles. Renee asks who the stipulation favors. Corey points out that Roman beat Bray in a similar match last year. Jerry says Extreme Rules means anything goes, so AJ Styles would be a fool to not take the help of The Club. Corey predicts they'll be a factor, alongside The Usos, if they survive their own match tonight.

The Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal trophy is ringside as Baron Corbin makes his way to the ring. Dolph Ziggler comes out next.

No Disqualification Match: Baron Corbin vs. Dolph Ziggler

Ziggler lands a headbutt and drives Corbin's shoulder into the ringpost before landing a dropkick for a quick pin attempt. Ziggler lands a splash in the corner. Baron reverses an Irish whip, sending Ziggler flying out of the ring. Baron follows, and pulls Ziggler's arm, driving his head into the ringpost. Back into the ring, Corbin pushes Ziggler into the corner and lands a number of elbow strikes. Another hard Irish whip sends Ziggler sternum-first into the turnbuckle. Baron ties up Ziggler's arms in the ropes and lands a punch to the face. Ziggler falls out of the ropes and Baron applies a half-nelson chinlock. Ziggler fights out with a jawbreaker. Baron charges and Ziggler sends him out of the ring. Back in the ring, Ziggler hits two jumping clotheslines and a Stinger splash. Ziggler lands a neckbreaker and Baron rolls out of the ring. Ziggler grabs his head from over the top rope and Baron pulls his neck down onto the rope. Baron gets into the ring but walks into a dropkick and an elbow drop for a two-count. Ziggler goes for a Famouser, which Baron counters into an attempted powerbomb. Ziggler rolls through for a two-count. Ziggler charges into a Deep Six for a two-count. Baron gets Ziggler into powerbomb position again, and Ziggler hops out, landing on the second rope. Ziggler jumps into an attempted tornado DDT but Baron catches him. Baron attempts a slam but Ziggler counters into a DDT. Ziggler hits a Famouser for another two-count. Ziggler lands some elbows and headbutts to Baron and goes for a superkick. Baron dodges and lands a low blow. Baron takes advantage and hits End of Days for the win.

Winner: Baron Corbin
