Monday Night Raw Results (1/1/18) - Happy New Year!

RAW logo

Hello one and all! Welcome back to Monday Night Raw here at WNW and happy New Year as well! It's officially January which means we're on the road to the Royal Rumble! Easily my favorite time of year. Let's see what WWE has in store for us tonight!

Monday Night Raw Results

-Raw starts with Alexa Bliss complaining to Kurt about her match with Asuka tonight. Kurt says he wanted a WrestleMania quality match, but she's lucky because it's not a championship match...yet.

-Kurt hits the ring and welcomes everyone to Raw and 2018! He promises 2018 will be even better than 2017. He announces John Cena and he talks about how there will be a Women's Royal Rumble match. He knows there are questions about that match. He says what's good for the men is good for the women. 30 entrants, over the top rope and both feet must hit the floor, and the winner gets a championship match at WrestleMania.

-Kurt is interrupted by The Bar who tell him what happened last week was a tragedy! Favoritism lead to The Bar losing their tag team titles. Jason Jordan interrupts and says they earned the tag team titles. Kurt says this is Raw and they settle their differences in the ring. He sets a match, Cesaro vs. Jason Jordan.

-Seth Rollins' music hits and he comes out saying Jason Jordan has a lot to learn. He can't just come out and run his mouth against these two without talking to your partner first. What happens when Sheamus and Cesaro jump him together? He gets injured and then Seth is stripped of his title or has to defend them together. He needs to learn not to be so self-absorbed.

Cesaro vs. Jason Jordan

The match goes back and forth with Sheamus providing a few distractions for Cesaro. Cesaro focused on the leg of Jordan early on and stuck to that game plan throughout the match. They're clearly trying back to trying to make Jason Jordan the determined underdog. Jason Jordan capitalized on Seth Rollins distracting Cesaro by attacking Sheamus for the win.

Winner: Jason Jordan

Bray Wyatt vs. Apollo Crews w/Titus Worldwide

This match is surprisingly even for the start. Bray does take control after an impressive headbutt. Crews attempted to muster some offense but Bray cuts it off quickly. Titus tries to motivate Crews from the outside but Crews ended up running into a wicked clothesline. Dana gets on the ring apron to motivate Apollo. It distracts Wyatt, but he's still able to connect with Sister Abigail for the win.

Winner: Bray Wyatt

-As Bray is celebrating Woken Matt appears on the titantron. He cuts an insane promo basically saying he is the light to Bray's darkness. Then he laughed ...a lot. And the screen started doubling Matt's faces.

-Backstage Nia has chicken noodle soup. She's leaving to take it to Enzo who is in the hospital with the flu. Alexa runs up and says she needs Nia to be in her corner against Asuka tonight. Nia says she has to take the soup to Enzo and leaves.

Alexa Bliss vs. Asuka

Bliss does her best to avoid Asuka at first. Her face screams fear. The match starts a little slower with some lockups and submission holds. Asuka knocks Alexa out of the ring and doesn't want to get back in. She gets in only to break the count and rolls back out. Eventually, the ref forces her back in. Asuka goes on the attack and Alexa plays defense and rolls back out of the ring. When we return from break Alexa is in control, she took control when Asuka missed an attack. Bliss is able to mount some solid offense. Bliss gets bold and slaps Asuka in the face which was a huge mistake and only fires up Asuka. After a flurry of offense, Asuka locks in the armbar and Bliss taps out.

Winner: Asuka

-Samoa Joe cuts one helluva promo about facing Roman Reigns for the Intercontinental Championship later tonight.

Braun Stroman vs. Rhyno w/ Heath Slater

Rhyno tries to hit some offense but it's shut down fast by Braun. Braun goes out and gets a microphone and tells Slater he can either stay out on the floor or he can get in the ring and get "these hands" like Rhyno. Rhyno tries to attack but Braun shuts him down. Slater gets in the ring and they try to attack him together. Braun destroys Rhyno and Slater and pins Rhyno for the win.

Winner: Braun Strowman

-After the match Braun hits a running powerslam on Slater and Rhyno, then Slater again (as per the request of the Miami crowd) then Rhyno again...then Slater again.

-Backstage Kane approaches Strowman and says he just wants to talk. He says Kane and Braun are the alpha monsters of the WWE. Together they can tame the beast, Brock Lesnar. Braun says he's the only alpha monster in WWE and when he takes down Lesnar it's going to be his way.

-In Kurt's office, Finn Balor talks to Kurt and officially enters the Royal Rumble match. Kurt says that's great but he thought it was about his 6 man tag match later tonight. Kurt asks if Finn was able to find partners, Finn tell him he has actually. Gallows and Anderson walk in.

Samoa Joe vs. Roman Reigns for the Intercontinental Championship, if Roman is DQed he will lose the title

Joe brings his A game right off the bat with a series of heavy strikes on Roman. Roman counters with his strong style, too. Both men are throwing some bombs. The ref is getting a little more involved than usual to send the message that "Roman could get DQed!" Roman is sent to the outside as they go to commercial.

We return and Roman goes for a tackle but misses and connects with the steel post instead. Joe takes control of this match with his power and aggressive style. The pace starts to slow as Joe takes control. Roman starts to fight back with clotheslines and then is able to connect with the drive-by. Joe takes control again when he's able to knock Roman out of the ring and hit a suicide dive/running forearm. Joe slaps Roman and Roman gets furious! He screams "Hit me!" And fires up in a big way. Roman signals the Superman Punch but Joe sees it and rolls out of the ring. Roman goes to the outside but Joe sees him coming and blocks his attack. He slams Roman's head against the steel stairs but Roman is able to throw Joe into the stairs. Roman grabs the stairs but the ref reminds him it will lead to a DQ. Joe blasts Roman when he puts the stairs down but Roman is able to bounce back with a Superman Punch. Roman fires up and signals the spear but runs into a kick. Joe pushes Roman into the ref who debates DQing him. Joe plants Roman off the distraction but only gets 2. Joe locks in the clutch but Roman is able to toss Joe off him and then connect with a spear! 1-2-3!

Winner: Roman Reigns

-Sasha Banks, Bayley and Absolution all announce their entries into the Royal Rumble

-Drew Gulak and Daivari are in the ring, Gulak delivers a message to the crowd from Enzo. Enzo's got the flu so he won't be defending his title on Raw tonight. Had he been healthy he'd clean the floor with Cedric Alexander. Alexander hits the ring and says he came to Miami expecting a title match and competition. He asks who is going to step up. They tell him they'll fight a tag team match against anyone who comes out to be his partner...not that anyone would want to. Goldust's music hits!

Cedric Alexander and Goldust vs. Gulak and Daivari

Alexander and Daivari start off the match and Cedric's offense is on fire to start. Daiviri takes control off of a distraction. Goldust tags in and takes control of the match. He takes out both Gulak and Daivari. Goldust with a spinning crossbody off the top turnbuckle! Not something you see every day! Alexander tags in and hits teh lumbar check for the win!

Winners: Cedric Alexander and Goldust

-Elias is in the ring and announces, again, that WWE stands for Walk With Elias. Making the WWE Universe his fans. The Miztourage is out there to perform with him. The announce Miz will be back next week! Eventually, Balor and The Club interrupt.

Elias and The Miztourage vs. Finn Balor and The Club

The match starts with Balor and Elias. The match went very quickly. A bit of regular offense but then the Gallows and Anderson hit a magic killer and Balor hits the Coup De Grace on Bo Dallas and picks up the win.

Winners: Finn Balor and The Club

-Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman make their way out to the ring. Heyman cuts a good promo about Brock defending his title in a triple threat match. He says Brock will beat both men, he could beat all 30 men in the Royal Rumble Match. Kane comes out and hits a chokeslam on Lesnar. Lesnar sits up like Kane. The locker room empties to separate the two from fighting.
