NXT Rank'd

Hey faithful readers! I am sorry I am over a week late in getting this out. I made the decision that seeing as how it is WrestleMania this week, there will be no NXT Rank'd this week. If you are watching all the festivities this weekend, enjoy! Without further ado, here is this weeks Rank'd.

Kalisto vs. Tyler Breeze- By Wyatt Leves

This was a pretty good match. I like both of these competitors, and their in-ring talent. Both Kalisto and Breeze are very talented. I liked how Breeze took his time to enter, and how Kalisto, when the bell rang, was really pumped. It hyped the fans and they got really excited. It was a fairly good match overall, and a good ending. It was cool how he countered the move right into the Beauty Shot. Great match overall.

Colin Cassady vs. Wesley Blake- By Dave Johnston

I must say, I really enjoy Enzo and Big Cass's opening intro. I think it is the funniest and catchiest thing they do to the point myself and my fiancée are starting to repeat it as they do it just not with as much zeal. Anyway, this match was well placed on the card. It was number two in more ways than one if you catch my drift. It was just horrible and both teams have a strong upside, but I can't help but wonder if Vince is behind this and the other matches that NXT puts on that are just terrible. I just could not get into this match and as Mark Cuban on Shark Tank always says, for that reason I'm out. Come on Triple H, NXT is better that this when you do the specials.

NXT Women's Champion Sasha Banks vs. Alexa Bliss (NON TITLE)- By Michael Christopher

The first thing that popped out to me in this match was Bliss's lack of fan support, but I guess Sasha Bank's growing fan support trumps a hometown crowd. The actual match wasn't all that great. The match started off rather slow with a couple high spots but really it was little slow moving. I liked to see the summersault from Alexa and I really liked the aggression she showed in this match. In the end this match did what it was suppose to do and that is lead into a Championship match next week where we will probably get the opportunity to see a lot more from these ladies.

NXT Champion Kevin Owens vs. Alex Riley- By Paul Rathert

The buildup to this fight, though it’s only been a few weeks, had me chomping at the bit for these two to finally meet in the ring. I’m not sure if he’s here long-term or not, but Alex Riley has done a good job of evolving and maturing his character. I’m a fan of it. It needs a few small tweaks, but overall he does a good job of conveying his rage to the audience. Though the outcome was all, but guaranteed, we still got a good match that continued several storylines.

Admittedly, it took me some time to buy into Kevin Owens. I questioned whether he could pull off the ruthless heel in a believable way. I had to counter myself with the great quote from Moneyball about selling jeans when I initially thought he didn’t really look intimidating. When I watch him now the thing that jumps out to me are his sentons. They are absolutely brutal. The Cannonball he does in the corner could be a finisher, honestly. I liked that they had Owens hit the Lights Out for the pin after throwing Riley up against the stationary gate in front of the first row of seats twice. Riley was able to muster a little offense, but never sustained it and Owens did what he should to someone in the ring for only the second time after a two year hiatus.

Even though Riley wasn’t able to exact the revenge the audience was looking for, Balor coming out post-match to avert Owens’ continued beat down gave us enough to feel justice was somewhat served. Owens got heat, Balor continues to get over as a face, and Riley put up a fight. Really can’t wait for Balor/Owens for the belt!
