- WWE Royal Rumble 2014 was a legitimate sellout from the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Attendance announced on the show was 15,715.
- Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was backstage hanging out before the show and was shown sitting ringside on camera. Below is a photo with Ric Flair and Shawn Michaels:

- Alexander Rusev, who is from NXT and has been on main roster live events, debuted in the Royal Rumble match. He entered at #6 and was compared to Bo Dallas from NXT last year.
- Dolph Ziggler, who is coming back from a concussion, entered the Royal Rumble match at #12 and was Jim Duggan's pick to win it.
- Kevin Nash was a surprise Royal Rumble entrant, entering at #14. He eliminated Jack Swagger immediately upon entering the match.
- Sheamus, who has been out since July with a torn labrum, was a surprise Royal Rumble entrant. He entered at #17.
