Ryback has had discussions with Bellator MMA about pursing a career in Mixed Martial Arts, Wrestling News World has learned.
Ryback, who legally changed his name from Ryan Reeves to Ryback Reeves, left WWE last month when they couldn’t come to terms on a new contract. Ryback chose to sit out the final portion of his contract instead of being subjected to getting “jobbed out” for his final weeks with the company.
He’s worked the independent wrestling scene as The Big Guy and has pursued other revenue opportunities revolving around his Ryback brand. He legally changed his name earlier this month so he can use the name Ryback, which is trademarked by WWE.
Ryback is not the first professional wrestler to make the transition to MMA (not by far) as former WWE now TNA Wrestling star Bobby Lashley is an active fighter for Bellator MMA. We all know about CM Punk, who competed in his first MMA fight ever earlier this month at UFC 203. Punk lost to Mickey Gall in a one-sided encounter.
While we can confirm contact between Ryback and Bellator, no deal for him to fight is imminent at press time.
