WWE Smackdown is moving to Thursday nights. SyFy has updated their schedule to reveal the move will take place on Thursday, October 2, 2014. You can view the full schedule at this link.
The move comes as no surprise as one of the new WWE production truck designs featured a graphic of The Usos beside the Smackdown logo that read "Thursdays 8/7c.” On August 6, 2014, a WWE spokesperson issued the following statement to WrestlingNewsWorld.com:
A move has been contemplated, but no decision has been made. Someone was overzealous in updating our production trucks. The trucks are being fixed to reflect the current and accurate information of Fridays at 8pm.
October 2, 2014 will be the first episode of Smackdown under WWE's new domestic television deal with NBCUniversal. The initial move to Friday nights took place in the Fall 2005 on UPN. You can read the official release from the move at this link.
The move will likely cause WWE to move the first-run airing of NXT from Thursday night to Wednesday or Friday, to prevent original WWE Network programming from competing.
