Hello, everyone!

Once again, we are here to bring you coverage of Smackdown! Live as it goes down tonight at 8pm/ET right here on! It will be interesting to see the fallout from SummerSlam for the blue brand as we have AJ Styles coming off the biggest win of his career as well as Dean Ambrose having successfully defended his WWE World Title against Dolph Ziggler. Be sure to join us for live coverage!

SMACKDOWN! LIVE (08.23.16)
UNCASVILLE, CT (Mohegan Sun Arena)
Commentators: Mauro Ranallo, John "Bradshaw" Layfield, David Otunga

AJ Styles comes into the locker room where Baron Corbin, Erick Rowan, Apollo Crews, Rhyno and an upset Dolph Ziggler are hanging out. AJ declares himself the new face that runs the place and then puts Cena's "Never Give Up" headband on. AJ taunts Ziggler and says he doesn't like losers, which causes Dolph to headbutt him and swing away. Referees separate the two men.

American Alpha, the Hype Bros, the Usos, the Ascension, Breezango and the Vaudevillains alongside Carmella, Naomi, Becky Lynch, Nikki Bella, Natalya and Alexa Bliss are in the ring with three brand new title belts. Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan come down to join them. The former talks about opportunity and then Daniel says that each of the women has potential to be the face of Smackdown's women's division. Shane says that we will find out at Backlash with a 6-pack challenge between all six of these women. We will also be crowning Smackdown Tag Team Champions at Backlash with the culmination of a tournament, which will start TONIGHT. Heath Slater comes in through the crowd to interrupt though and gets a huge reaction from the crowd. Heath says he will let bygones be bygones but he wants to come in here and win a title belt. Daniel makes a crack about Heath not being "equipped" to win a Women's Title but he's talking about the Tag Team Titles. Shane says he's not even a member of the roster nor does he have a tag team partner. Heath responds that he could easily find someone that wants to stand by his side and then they could enter the tournament and win the whole thing. Daniel says that if Heath can find a partner by the end of tonight, then he will make the tournament into an 8-team tournament and he and his partner can compete next week. Shane says that Heath will have to win the whole tournament to even get a contract. AJ Styles interrupts (and says he won't be Heath's tag team partner on his way down the aisle) and puts himself over but Dolph Ziggler jumps him and they get into a big pull-apart brawl.

Natalya and Naomi join the announce table for color commentary.

Becky Lynch vs. Alexa Bliss

They fight over the arm to start but Bliss escapes with a back elbow. Becky almost gets the Dis-arm-her but Alexa gets to the ropes and then kicks Becks in the back of the head. Bliss gives her another kick for a one count and then goes to an armbar. Becky escapes and gets a pair of clotheslines and a leg lariat followed by the flying firearm in the corner. Bliss fights out with a sunset flip for two but Becky comes back with the Dis-arm-her for the submission victory.

WINNER via SUBMISSION: Becky Lynch (4:01)

Heath Slater starts his search for his partner and finds the Miz and seemingly recruits him but the whole time Miz was talking to Steven Spielberg on a bluetooth device. Slater is frustrated and walks away.

Smackdown Tag Team Title Tournament - First Round
The Usos vs. The Ascension

The Ascension get the jump on the Samoan tandem from the outset and even grab a quick two count off a flying knee to the face. Konnor gets a flying clothesline for another two count and the heels keep knocking Jey off the apron to stay in control. Viktor gets a big lariat for yet another two count. He rips at Jimmy's face and takes him into the heel corner before Konnor gets a two count off a legdrop from his partner. Konnor grabs a nerve hold to wear Jimmy down but he fights out with chops... and gets pushed right back into the corner again. Jimmy gets a sunset flip for a quick two count and then takes Konnor down with an enzuiguri so he can finally get the hot tag to Jey, who launches off the top rope with a cross-body on Viktor for two. Viktor gets a backslide for two but Jey takes him down with a Samoan Drop. He sets up for something but Konnor cuts him off... so Jimmy superkicks him. He follows it up by diving on Konnor to the outside and then a top-rope splash finishes Viktor for the win.

WINNERS via PINFALL (Jimmy over Viktor): The Usos (3:49)

AJ Styles comes down with his John Cena armband and cocky new attitude. AJ tells the fans to calm down and calls out Dolph Ziggler for being jealous because of what AJ did at SummerSlam and he shows stills of him defeating John Cena. AJ talks about beating up John Cena and says that his fans don't have to follow John anymore because now they can be AJ Styles fans. He says that he is NOW "the face that runs this place." He repeats it several times and says that he should be the #1 contender for the WWE World Title. Dolph Ziggler tries to run down but is stopped by referees and agents. Daniel Bryan interrupts and says that they are not going to ruin this show but adds that AJ should be the #1 contender while Ziggler came THIS close to becoming the champion at SummerSlam. Tonight, we will get Dolph Ziggler vs. AJ Styles and if Styles wins then he gets Ambrose at Backlash. If Dolph wins then he will get added to that match making it a triple threat.

Curt Hawkins is coming!

Nikki Bella talks to Renee Young about her comeback before her match with Carmella but Carm jumps her outta nowhere and then just mercilessly beats on her thus cancelling the planned match. Carmella lays her out with her own Bella Buster move and then leaves having completed her heel turn.

Randy Orton comes down to the ring to a huge reaction and also has ten staples in his head. Randy talks about going to Suplex City and being in the fight of his life at SummerSlam but he would've rather been loaded onto a stretcher unconscious than have the match end in a TKO. He talks about their paths crossing again... and he gets interrupted by Bray Wyatt. He asks how Randy's head is doing and says that there's nothing like laying down with your head busted wide open to remind someone that they're JUST a man. Bray says that he is not just a man as he is a God and he can never die. He says that Randy will find out all about it in good time. Randy tells him to come in the ring but the lights go out. When they come back on, only Bray's rocking chair is left in the entrance.

Shane McMahon talks about Brock Lesnar's actions and says that this thing between he and Brock is far from over.

Heath Slater asks Arn Anderson to be his partner but Arn is offended that he wasn't Heath's first choice and walks away. Slater is deflated again. However, Rhyno puts his hand on Heath's shoulder and they become partners!

Smackdown Tag Team Title Tournament - First Round
American Alpha vs. Breezango

We get insert promos from both teams. Gable and Fandango start things off with Gable taking him down with a waistlock but Fandango elbows out and tags Breeze. Gable gets him in a quick rollup and an armdrag before tagging in Jordan, who dropkicks Breeze down. They take both members of Breezango down with suplexes and toss them out of the ring before things settle down again with Jordan and Breeze. American Alpha use quick tags to work over Tyler's arm and then Gable gets him in an armbar and even twists it around to really wrench on it. We get more quick tags from AA but the ref forces Jordan out, allowing Fandango to clothesline the crap out of Gable and garner Breeze a two count. We take a commercial break.

We come back with Gable skinning the cat and sending Fandango to the outside but Breeze is tagged in first. Gable ducks underneath and hot tags Jordan, who proves to be a suplex machine on both members of Breezango. Jordan spears Breeze in the corner and they get a dropkick/german suplex combo but Fandango breaks it up at two. Jordan gets the tag and they set up Breeze for a double-team move but Fandango shoves Gable to the outside and Breeze rolls him up for a two count. The Supermodel Kick in the corner gets Breeze another two count but Gable breaks it up in the nick of time. Gable cuts off an attempted double-team move, which allows Jordan to roll up Breeze for two but he then quickly eats a leg lariat that gets Breeze another near fall. Tyler goes for another Supermodel Kick but Jordan takes him down with an Alphaplex and then Gable comes in for the Grand Amplitude for the hard-fought victory.

WINNERS via PINFALL (Gable over Breeze): American Alpha (10:29)

WWE World Champion Dean Ambrose talks about the main event tonight and then gets his drinks delivered in exchange for some poker chips. After the break, he joins the announce table for color commentary.

Dolph Ziggler vs. AJ Styles

No one gets a real advantage early on as Dolph goes for AJ's feet but AJ gets to the ropes. He smacks Dolph a few times and takes him into the corner but Dolph grabs him and takes him down to the mat in a waistlock. Styles rolls out of the ring to escape and then when he gets back in Dolph hammers him against the ropes and then dropkicks him to send him right back to the outside.

Back from commercial and AJ has Dolph reeling in the corner. He whips him to the other side but misses a follow-up splash and thus Dolph fires away with right hands. AJ reverses a whip and whips Dolph HARD chest-first into the buckles. OUCH. AJ grabs another two count and then slugs away with right hands and a big roundhouse kick to the head. Dolph somehow gets a rollup and grabs AJ by the waist but AJ slugs him back down again and then plants a knee in his chest. AJ stomps on Ziggler in the corner and then kicks him in the back of the leg but Ziggler begins to mount his comeback. He backdrops AJ to the apron and then punches him but AJ ducks a spear and neckbreakers him on the second rope. We take another break.

We come back from the break and AJ has Dolph locked in an armbar. Dolph fights back to his feet an uses right hands but AJ plants a knee to the mid-section... and receives a dropkick to the face. AJ recovers first but Dolph ducks a right hand and hits a pair of clotheslines followed by a big neckbreaker and an elbowdrop for a near fall. Dolph sends AJ shoulder-first into the corner and hits the Fameasser for another two count. AJ fights back with an overhead neckbreaker for a two count of his own but misses the springboard 450. Dolph then hits the satellite DDT and gets yet another two count. Doph goes for a kick but AJ catches him but can't quite get the Styles Clash. Dolph then hits the Zig Zag out of nowhere and STILL can't get the three count. Holy crap! Dolph misses a superkick and AJ kicks the ropes to low blow him. Styles Clash and that's all she wrote.

WINNER via PINFALL: AJ Styles (21:30)

AJ gets in Dean's face and throws his headset down. We get a confrontation but AJ backs off before anything physical can actually go down.

Adios, amigos!
