Huge events have transpired since we last joined the blue brand on Tuesday night. We have three brand new champions that were crowned at Backlash in the form of the first-ever Tag Team Champions, Heath Slater and Rhyno; the first-ever Women's Champion, Becky Lynch; and the brand-new WWE World Champion AJ Styles! Backlash was also highly praised so we're coming off a wave of goodwill! Dolph Ziggler and the Miz proved to have one of the best matches on the entire card in a night that saw AJ and Ambrose deliver the goods as well. One interesting thing to note is Randy Orton's injury. Will that be addressed tonight? And what does it mean for his feud with Bray Wyatt? Perhaps we will find out those answers and more right HERE on Wrestling News World at 8pm/ET when Smackdown! Live is recapped... well... live.

The brand-new WWE World Champion AJ Styles comes down to the ring and opens the show. AJ starts by saying "I told you so" and says that he accomplished everything that he said he would thus far. He even says that he could beat Ambrose or Cena with one arm tied behind his back and it would be the gospel according to AJ Styles. OH BUT HERE COMES JOHN CENA! The crowd is shocked to say the least. Cena wants something back so AJ says no problem and throws his "Never Give Up" armband in his face. Cena adds that AJ still has something that belongs to him and he'd like to take it back - the WWE World Title. He also alludes to holding the title one more time that will put him in line with Ric Flair's record and it puts him in the conversation. Cena adds that he has one more goal and that is to become the 16-time champ... oh, and here comes the former champion Dean Ambrose. He tells AJ that by kicking him between the legs he made the biggest mistake in his life and made himself a major enemy. Dean promises to make AJ's life miserable and take his title back WITH INTEREST. Cena cuts Dean off though and says that he low-blowed AJ on Smackdown before AJ did it to him at Backlash. Cena accuses Dean of having no balls and says that maybe Stone Cold was right when he said that on his podcast. Dean says he doesn't give a damn what Cena thinks and calls him a lazy part-timer. He says that John should just keep doing his movies and stuff because he can't get it done or keep up in the ring. Dean adds that Cena couldn't get by AJ so how is he going to get by Ambrose? Shane McMahon cuts this whole thing off and says that AJ beat John Cena clean at SummerSlam even though his "face that runs the place" stuff is getting on his nerves. He accuses Styles of taking the easy way out to beat Ambrose and then says that Ambrose WILL get his rematch... but not at the moment. At No Mercy, AJ will be defending the title against John Cena AND Dean Ambrose in a triple threat match. As for tonight, AJ will find a partner to take on Cena and Ambrose in a tag team match. If he can't find someone to team with him then the GM will appoint one for him instead.

MATCH #1
The Hype Bros vs. The Usos

The Usos immediately go after Ryder's leg with Jey taking hm down and then Jummy relentlessly stomping on it. Jey then puts Ryder in a leglock but he kicks his way out and manages to tag in Mojo. Jimmy gets run over with a clothesline and a huge shoulderblock and then the big Mojo splashes both Usos in the corner. Jimmy catches Mojo with a superkick though and then Jey lands a top-rope splash for the dominant victory.

WINNERS via PINFALL (Jey over Mojo): The Usos (2:22)

Curt Hawkins delivers some of his Curt Hawkins Facts in a pre-recorded segment.

Intercontinental Champion The Miz [w /Maryse] makes his way down to the ring and talks about how members of the WWE Universe have been calling him a coward. He doesn't care though because he left Backlash with his beautiful wife and the Intercontinental Title still over his shoulder, making it Day 162. Miz claims that he has made the title more prestigious than it has ever been and that he is a bonafide main eventer. Miz's Backlash opponent Dolph Ziggler makes his way out and says that Miz is trying to prove to himself that he's the champion but it doesn't matter because everyone laughs at him in the back and they all see right through him. Miz declares that he IS the main event and remarks that Dolph's career is pretty much six feet under. Dolph challenges Miz to do it one more time - no Maryse, no stunt doubles, no interference, no gimmick and no excuses! Maryse cuts him off though and Miz has to tell the crowd to shut up while she's talking. Daniel Bryan cuts off these proceedings though and says that Maryse cheated and is the only reason that Miz is still the champion. Bryan decides that there WILL be a rematch but Miz says that Dolph didn't earn anything to get that spot. Miz says he wants his contract re-negotiated and the title will not be defended until he gets what he wants out of Daniel. The GM then gets in the ring, which causes Miz and Maryse to bail through the crowd.

AJ Styles finds Baron Corbin in the hallway and offers him a chance to be his tag team partner. Baron says he'd rather be an opponent because he wants the title.

Apollo Crews an Baron Corbin are scheduled to have a match but the latter beats the crap out of him and tosses him around the ringside area. For some reason, Jack Swagger then makes his way down in street clothes and the announcers remark that he has apparently signed with Smackdown after his RAW contract expired. Baron bails out of the ring and Swagger grabs the microphone. He declares that he's signed with the blue brand and talks about his past accomplishments before saying that the fans don't know Jack because he's gonna be a big problem on this show. I... don't really know what to make of that.

Women's Champion Becky Lynch makes her way down to the ring to celebrate her victory at Backlash. She says Philadelphia is such an appropriate place for "Becky Balboa" to celebrate her victory and then talks about narrowing the field down in the match until she was the only one left standing. Becky says that the destination is way better than the journey and says "come at me, bros." Naomi answers the call as we start the 5-way women's match.

MATCH #2
5-Way #1 Contendership Match
Nikki Bella vs. Naomi vs. Natalya vs. Carmella vs. Alexa Bliss

Big schmozz to start with Nattie/Nikki and Bliss/Naomi pairing off. Nattie grabs a quick rollup on Nikki for two and then suplexes her as well as Bliss. She gets a Michinoku Driver on Naomi but Nikki breaks up the pin. Nattie and Nikki slug it out with the latter driving Nattie's head to her knee for a near fall. Carmella breaks up the pin but avoids Nikki's wrath by rolling to the outside. Bella then nails her with a lariat on the floor. Back in the ring, Naomi sunset flips Nattie for two. Naomi gets a big kick to the head on Nikki and then locks her in a headscissors but gets dropped in an electric chair. Alexa sneaks in and gets a two count on both girls. Nattie then goes after Bliss and then Naomi enzuiguris Bliss as well as hitting her with a full nelson bomb. Nattie kicks both of them in the face but now Nikki hits Nattie with the Bella Buster for a two count. Naomi hits Nikki with the Rear View for two but nattie catches her and smashes her into the steps. Nikki whips Nattie into the guardrail and comes back in to face Bliss and ram her into the corner. Bliss kicks her down but gets tripped on the top rope and Nikki goes for her finish. Carmella superkicks Nikki so Bliss quickly throws Carmella out of the ring and grabs the pinfall on Nikki to become the #1 contender.

WINNER via PINFALL (over Nikki): Alexa Bliss (5:11)

AJ offers Kane a spot as his tag team partner but Kane just laughs and walks away, leaving AJ dumbfounded.

It's time for the contract signing as Shane McMahon is in the ring. He talks about Heath Slater becoming a tag team champion at Backlash and earning his contract before bringing out both Heath and Rhyno to the ring. Shane congratulates them for winning the titles and Heath officially signs his contract. Heath celebrates and thanks Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan for making this happen, thanks Beulah and last but not least he thanks Rhyno for being his partner. He declares that they will take on anyone at anytime and then thanks all of his kids. The Ascension decide to interrupt and accept the challenge for a title match to be right here and NOW. Heath is uneasy but Shane says we can have the match right now.

MATCH #3
Smackdown Tag Team Title Match
Heath Slater/Rhyno (c) vs. The Ascension

We join the match in-progress with Slater getting double-teamed in the corner. Rhyno runs in so he gets tossed and the beatdown continues. They botch something so Rhyno breaks it up at two and sends Konnor into the corner post. Heath makes the hot tag to Rhyno, who quickly takes Viktor down with shoulderblocks and a clothesline along with a big spinebuster for a two count interrupted by Konnor. Heath runs in so Konnor deposits him. Rhyno then nails Konnor and Gores Viktor for the quick win.

WINNERS via PINFALL (Rhyno over Viktor): Heath Slater/Rhyno (2:09)

AJ doesn't want a partner but Daniel Bryan says they've appointed a partner for him... that James guy that Braun Strowman destroyed on RAW a while back. Styles is not pleased.

Randy Orton comes down to the ring and accuses Bray Wyatt of fearing him and that's why he attacked him from behind at Backlash. He calls Bray out to the ring for a fight if he's "got the balls." Instead, Wyatt appears on the big screen and says that a wise man knows when to stand down. He gave Orton a way out at Backlash and all he had to do was stay down. Instead, Orton chose to embarrass him and now Wyatt knows what he must do - he appears at ringside and slowly takes off his gear. The lights go out again though and when they come back on, Erick Rowan attacks Randy from behind. Orton takes him out with the RKO though!

MATCH #4
John Cena/Dean Ambrose vs. AJ Styles (WWE World Champion)/The Miz (Intercontinental Champion)

Miz attacks James Ellsworth viciously on the ramp and takes his spot as AJ's partner. We take a break.

We are joined in progress with Miz getting a two count on Cena and then delivering a DDT for another close call. AJ gets a cheapshot on Cena, which allows Miz to get his big clothesline in the corner. He misses a second one though and Cena tags in Ambrose, who goes nuts on Styles. He catches him with a lariat and then nails him with a swinging backbreaker. Dean gets his hooking clothesline from the top rope for a two count. He takes AJ to the corner and pummels him before nailing Miz and sneding him into the barricade as well. Back in the ring, AJ hits Dean with the Pele Kick and we take another commercial break.

We come back with Dean declining to tag Cena and instead putting Miz on the top rope. The IC Champion fights him off though and crashes down on the Lunatic with an axehandle before tagging in AJ. He cheapshots Cena off the apron, which allows the heels to cheat behind the ref's back. Styles slaps Dean around but he fights back and chops the champion. AJ fires back again with more chops and kicks to the mid-section and then applies a chinlock. Dean fights out and finally tags Cena while AJ tags Miz. Cena takes Miz down with the Five Knuckle Shuffle and takes him up for the AA but AJ interrupts it. Dean takes out AJ though and then Cena AAs Miz for the 1-2-3.

WINNERS via PINFALL (Cena over Miz): John Cena/Dean Ambrose (9:49)

Cena celebrates but Dean can't take it anymore and lays him out with Dirty Deeds.
