Welcome to Thursday Night Jericho! Tonight's much-anticipated Y2J-AJ Styles highlights tonight's Smackdown card. With just a little over a week left until Fastlane, what else will be have in store?!
Before Chris Jericho and AJ Styles get this party started, we get a special visit from the Social Outcasts (minus Bo Dallas). Adam Rose is a little confused and thought the group got renamed to the Social House Cats. Jericho gets tired of Slater's Guns & Roses karaoke and floors him with a right hand. Axel and Rose attack Jericho as Styles sits back and enjoys the sights for a few seconds before clearing the ring. Jericho says he wants a warmup match prior to tonight's one-on-one battle, and challenges the Outcasts to a tag-team match. Y2J and Styles take turns tagging each other in and out, each trying to perform a better move than the other guy. Axel and Rose briefly gain the upper-hand on Styles before he makes the hot tag to Jericho. Y2J clears the ring and hits the Lionsault for the apparent victory, but Styles tags himself in and hits the springboard forearm for the pin. As the ref raises their hands, Jericho hits the Codebreaker on Styles as a sign of his displeasure toward his tag-team partner.
(Quick note - Brock Lesnar will be on Smackdown next week)
Former Team B.A.D. teammates Sasha Banks and Naomi are set for a one-on-one match. One thing is for sure: Ms. Banks did not lose her attitude and flare (no pun intended) during her injury layoff. Sasha trash-talks and mocks Naomi after every kick, slap, and slam. She hits the double-knees off the middle turnbuckle and goes for the pin but Tamina drags Naomi out of the ring for the save. Naomi gains the upper-hand after a couple vicious moves outside of the ring, slamming Sasha's back off the ring apron repeatedly. Tamina attacks an innocent Becky Lynch outside the ring, and Sasha makes the save in a rather funny fashion, kicking Tamina into a seated position on a chair, then kicking the chair over with her on it. Naomi goes for a roll-up in the ring, but Sasha reverses it into the Banks Statement for the submission victory.
Apparently Stardust is not a fan of the Lucha! Lucha! Lucha! chant. Before their six-man tag match, Stardust and The Ascension attack Neville and the Lucha Dragons from behind. The bell is eventually rung but the attack on Neville continues. Eventually, he's able to make the hot tag to Kalisto who clears the ring and hits the Salida del Sol on Konnor, tags to Sin Cara for the Swanton dive from the top rope, then tags to Neville for the Red Arrow and the pin.
And in tonight's much-anticipated main event, Chris Jericho and AJ Styles battle to find out if the Phenomenal One, is in fact, phenomenal. Don't know if we can put it in the phenomenal category, but we'll put this match in the very, very good one. Both men trade a variety of spring-board moves and unorthodox kicks, drawing a lot of "ooh's and aah's" from the crowd. Jericho locks in the Walls of Jericho, but Styles is able to reverse it into the Calf Crusher. Jericho crawls out of the ring but Styles dives over the ropes and onto the floor to greet him. Seemingly with the match ready to be won, Styles goes for the spring-board forearm which won the earlier match, but Jericho trips him on the ropes and lands the Codebreaker for the pin. Very entertaining match.
